MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Donald Trump Jr, the eldest son of former President Donald Trump, hinted at the possibility of purchasing property in El Salvador as a potential escape route from legal troubles.

The 45th president was found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records after a brief deliberation on Thursday, May 30, with sentencing scheduled for July 11.

Donald Trump Jr praises El Salvador over US cities

Speaking on a recent episode of his 'Triggered' podcast, Trump Jr discussed his impressions of the Central American country, suggesting it appeared more appealing than some cities in the United States.

"They call it a third-world country. Guess what? It looked nicer than a lot of our cities," Trump Jr remarked. "That's what was perhaps the biggest takeaway. Like, 'Hey man, we're going to El Salvador ... pretty crazy crime rate in the past ... you look around and it looked incredible."

Trump Jr also mentioned having meals in restaurants there that rivaled those in Miami or New York. "It was sort of shocking, actually, to me," he continued. I may have to buy a place down there, so when they throw me out of America or toward the gulag, we got a place to run."

His remarks came shortly after he agreed with a social media post by ousted Fox News host Tucker Carlson, suggesting that the former POTUS would win the 2024 presidential election "if he’s not killed first." The GOP nominee was found guilty of falsifying business records in connection with the hush money payment made to adult star Stormy Daniels to suppress her story of an alleged affair, which Trump has denied.

Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump's criminal trial to begin on April 15, which would make it the first criminal prosecution of a former American president. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 election.
