WASHINGTON, DC: Former president Donald Trump's campaign has announced that he will not commit to debating Vice President Kamala Harris at this time, citing the possibility that the Democrats may choose a different nominee.

Kamala Harris has become the presumptive Democratic nominee following President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the reelection campaign on July 21.

Donald Trump's campaign criticizes last-minute changes to general election debates

In a statement released on the night of July 25, Trump’s campaign objected to the last-minute changes and suggested that Democrats might replace Harris at next month’s convention in Chicago.

Trump and Biden had previously agreed to a second debate on September 10th.

Trump's campaign statement on general election debates read, “Given the continued political chaos surrounding Crooked Joe Biden and the Democrat Party, general election debate details cannot be finalized until Democrats formally decide on their nominee," as per Mediaite.

It further stated, "There is a strong sense by many in the Democrat Party, namely Barack Hussein Obama, that Kamala Harris is a Marxist fraud who cannot beat President Trump, and they are still holding out for someone “better.”

"Therefore, it would be inappropriate to schedule things with Harris because Democrats very well could still change their minds," it concluded.

Kamala Harris questions Donald Trump's campaign commitment to debates

In her response, Kamala Harris referred to a previous commitment from the Trump campaign regarding the debates.

Biden ended his campaign on Sunday, about three weeks after a disastrous debate performance. This event caused concern among many Democrats, prompting donors to pause their contributions until a shift occurred.

Faced with significant pressure from prominent Democratic figures before the August nominating convention, Biden agreed to withdraw.

“Nothing will come in the way of saving democracy,” Biden spoke during the Oval Office address on July 24. “And that includes personal ambition. So, I’ve decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. That’s the best way to unite our nation.”
