PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: Donald Trump is set to hold a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate on Thursday, August 8, and his campaign intensified efforts to pressure Kamala Harris into facing the media.

The "general conference" scheduled for 2.00 pm EDT is expected to focus on Kamala Harris' media engagement and lack of on-the-record interviews as she continues to gain traction on the campaign trail.

Donald Trump says Kamala Harris is 'plain incompetent'

In a post on Truth Social, Donald Trump wrote, “Kamala refuses to do interviews because her team realizes she is unable to answer questions, much like Biden was not able to answer questions, but for different reasons."

“He is just plain ‘shot,’ and she is just plain ‘Incompetent,’" the former US president added.

Trump also warned that Harris' policies could lead to a "1929 Style Great Depression,” echoing similar predictions he made about Joe Biden's economic policies during the 2020 election, which did not materialize.

The 78-year-old politician's comments come as his campaign seeks to capitalize on Harris' lack of media engagement.

The Democratic presidential nominee has not taken questions from reporters on the campaign trail since Biden's July 21 announcement that he would not seek another term.

Although Harris has spoken off-the-record with reporters traveling with her and answered one question while being next to Biden when Americans detained in Russia were returned home on August 1, her limited media interactions have become a focal point for the Trump campaign.

Donald Trump's media interactions

While Kamala Harris has avoided the press, Donald Trump has remained in the media spotlight.

On July 31, the former president participated in a high-profile interview at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention, where he faced tough questions from journalists from ABC News, Semafor, and Fox News.

During the interview, Trump sparked controversy with his remarks about Harris' Black and Indian heritage, according to The Hill.

Despite the challenging media interaction, Trump has continued to engage with the press, however, mostly with friendly outlets.

He recently spoke with right-wing online streamer Adin Ross and 'Fox and Friends' on Fox News.

Internet mocks Donald Trump pressuring Kamala Harris to face media questions

As Donald Trump continues to attack Kamala Harris for lack of media engagement, netizens mocked the former president for holding the news conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate and pressuring the Vice President to face media questions.

"Suddenly Trump cares about the media and letting them ask questions. Interesting," a user on X wrote while another tweeted, "If reporters don't ask Trump questions that have some meat in them & he gets pissed because he doesn't want to answer & attacks the reporter, then this presser is all for show & means nothing."

"Harris is actually busy campaigning all over the country. What is bunker boy doing? Playing golf and calling into Fox where they hold his hand. He calls thos campaigning?" a netizen remarked.

Another individual wrote, "Trump doesn't answer questions. He rambles about nothing, shouts insults, calls names, and walks away. That's not a press conference that's a tantrum."

"From the safety of the old folks’ home known as Mar A Largo. You won’t see him on the campaign trail, but you will see him on the golf course," someone commented and a netizen opined, "He's campaigning from his golden basement!"
