Donald Trump reveals he won't invite Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo 'to join administration'
WASHINGTON, DC: President-elect Donald Trump surprised many on Saturday, November 9, by announcing he will not invite two prominent Republicans, Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo, to join his administration upon his return to the White House in 2025.
The decision marks a significant shift in Trump's political strategy, as both Haley, the former UN Ambassador, and Pompeo, the former Secretary of State, were widely anticipated to take on key roles in a second Trump term.
Donald Trump says he will not invite Nikki Haley or Mike Pompeo to join his administration
In a Truth Social post, the 47th president stated that although he "very much enjoyed and appreciated" his past collaboration with the two individuals, they would not be included in his forthcoming Cabinet.
“I will not be inviting former Ambassador Nikki Haley, or former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, to join the Trump Administration, which is currently in formation," Trump wrote.
He added, "I very much enjoyed and appreciated working with them previously, and would like to thank them for their service to our Country. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
Nikki Haley, the Republican leader of Indian descent, emerged as Trump's opponent in the intense GOP primaries earlier this year, vying to become their party's nominee for the White House.
Why did Donald Trump exclude Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo?
The exclusion of Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo from Trump's administration has been attributed to accusations from Trump's allies that they were deep state moles, potentially undermining his 'America First' agenda.
Additionally, Haley and Pompeo had previously run against Trump for the Republican nomination, which may have influenced the decision.
Haley sharply criticized Trump throughout the campaign, labeling him "unhinged" at one point, yet she did not surpass him in the primaries and ultimately supported his bid for the presidency.
Shortly before the election, Haley commented that the Trump campaign's rhetoric was alienating women and minorities, referencing the offensive and discriminatory comments made by speakers at a Trump rally in Madison Square Garden in October.
Numerous individuals associated with Trump, such as David Sacks, a significant Trump contributor, perceived Pompeo as overly willing to deploy the military abroad, the New York Times reported.
Additionally, Pompeo cautioned at the Conservative Political Action Conference against Republicans following “celebrity leaders with their own brand of identity politics — those with fragile egos who refuse to acknowledge reality.”
