NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former President Donald Trump became an easy target for social media trolls as his youngest son, Barron Trump, opted to study at the New York University, an institution he ridiculed while praising his failed venture, Trump University.

The 18-year-old attended the Stern School of Business at NYU, New York, on Wednesday, September 4, as per MTN. His choice of college was well-guarded by his family till his appearance on campus, dressed in white Ralph Lauren Polo, black pants, and Adidas Gazelle sneakers, carrying a Swiss Gear backpack.

While the GOP nominee earlier bragged about his son being accepted in multiple schools, Barron seemingly decided to attend the one in the city his father once described as a hellscape.

However, while former President Trump himself prefers to stay away from New York, his son would be close to his mother Melania Trump, who currently resides at the Trump Tower.

Donald Trump's earlier digs at New York University and New York

Donald Trump had trashed NYU along with other renowned universities in the country while boasting about his failed venture, Trump University, back in 2014.

Trump University, which focused on courses related to real estate investment and entrepreneurialism, was later sued for fraud and deception, leading to a $25 million settlement.

In August 2014, the former POTUS shared a tweet by user @seankesser, which read, "Trump University had 98% approval ratings, beats Harvard, NYU & other top universities."

Ahead of the 2020 election, Trump began lashing out against New York. One of his tweets from October 2020 read, "New York has gone to hell. Vote Trump!"

He lost the state in the last general election to Joe Biden and has since been prosecuted in New York over both civil and criminal charges.

Back in December 2023, Trump called New York a "deathtrap" in one of his Truth Social tirades over the civil fraud trial and claimed he was the only person who would be able to save it as the President of the United States.

Earlier this year, a New York jury found the former president guilty on 34 felony counts for falsifying business documents to hide a hush money payment made to Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election. Trump is currently awaiting his sentencing.

Internet trolls Donald Trump while remaining hopeful about Barron Trump

Netizens reacting to Barron Trump attending NYU trolled Donald Trump on X (formerly Twitter). Some even hoped that the teenager would turn out better than his father.

A user shared pictures of Barron going to college and wrote, "Barron Trump attending extremely woke liberal NYU that uses DEI and has classes that include gender affirming studies," taking a dig at his father.

One stated, "Hopefully he'll learn something there. Like tolerance and inclusiveness. Rumor has it Barron already hates his father. Can't blame bro."

"Rich people telling average Americans to not do something that they are SURELY going to do," quipped another.

A person joked, "I was under the impression that MAGAs thought college was evil," while someone else stated, "How many more pieces of the puzzle does maga have to see that Trump doesn’t believe a word that comes out of his own mouth."

"Baron decided to go to a NY college to be closer to his dad. Jail visitation is probably 2 times a week," wrote an individual, possibly referring to Trump's hush money trial conviction.

"For real Trump's always talking trash about NYC_ but his own son is living proof that it's a great place to be. Maybe Barron knows more than his dad," expressed one more.

Referring to the Trump name, another person wrote, "Poor kid may not realize how badly that name is in NYC."
