Donald Trump set to address 'crime wave' and inflation at upcoming Pennsylvania rally
WAILKES-BARRE, PENNSYLVANIA: Former president Donald Trump will highlight growing costs and what his team is referring to as a "crime wave" at this weekend's rally in the key state of Pennsylvania.
According to a campaign statement released on Monday, August 12, Trump will discuss how the Biden-Harris administration's “dangerously liberal policies and radical Democrats” have “failed” the Keystone State when he speaks to an audience on Saturday in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
Donald Trump blames 'dangerously liberal' Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for inflation
Drawing attention to the Republicans' Joint Economic Committee's conclusion that rising prices had resulted in an average Pennsylvania household paying $958 more per month, Donald Trump's campaign accused President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris of being "weak, failed, and dangerously liberal" for the dire state of the economy.
The nation has been plagued by persistent inflation during the majority of Biden's term, and Trump, the Republican nominee for president, has consistently pointed the finger at Biden and Harris for it.
Inflation is currently back on a falling trajectory, which is good news for the president, after circling around 3 percent for more than a year before rising once more in March.
Donald Trump's upcoming rally will target Kamala Harris' border work
The campaign announced that Kamala Harris, whom Republicans called the "border czar" for her management of the southern border of the United States and the flood of migrants into the country, will also be the subject of the former president's Pennsylvania event.
During his campaign, Trump pledged to "close the border" and "start the largest deportation operation" in American history.
“Democrats in Pennsylvania have essentially put out a welcome sign for illegal immigrants to live in their state and are prioritizing ludicrous programs for them, rather than focusing on lowering costs for Pennsylvanians,” the campaign wrote Monday, per The Hill.
Donald Trump's campaign claims Pennsylvania residents are experiencing 'crime wave'
Donald Trump's campaign went on to say that the “weak” Biden-Harris government is to blame for the “crime wave” that Pennsylvanians are facing.
However, overall crime in Philadelphia, including homicide, rape, robbery, and severe assault, decreased in the first half of 2024 compared to the same time the previous year, according to data released on Monday by the Major Cities Chiefs Association.
The state of Pennsylvania has seen a decline in crime overall as compared to the previous year, according to additional statistics from the Pennsylvania Uniform Crime Reporting Program.
Kamala Harris energized Democratic Party’s base after replacing Joe Biden
The former president’s visit to Pennsylvania will follow Kamala Harris’ and her running mate Minnesota Gov Tim Walz’s tour through key battleground states last week.
Following Biden's departure from the top spot on the Democratic presidential ticket in late July, Harris has galvanized the party's grassroots and witnessed a spike in polls against Trump.
The campaign has emphasized the hundreds of people who attended her rallies last week as evidence against Trump, who has traditionally used the size of the audience as a gauge of support.
Internet berates Donald Trump as he's slated to highlight crime rates in Pennsylvania
Donald Trump came under fire from netizens for choosing to discuss crime issues at his next rally, even though he had a troubling past.
One X user tweeted, "Or, so he’s gonna call on corporation to stop price gouging us and give kudos to Biden for the significant drop in violent crime? Sounds great." Another added, "His own crime, or the crime of others?"

"Not easy given the lowest crime rate in 40 years is still dropping," remarked one, while someone else wrote, "Why would he talk about lower crime rates? Oh nvm he's a liar so of course he's gonna lie."
