WASHINGTON, DC: Former president Donald Trump made his first post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) in almost a year, uploading a campaign commercial, in the hours leading up to his scheduled interview with Elon Musk, the platform's owner.

The post on X featured a two-and-a-half-minute advertisement, titled “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” with no caption.

The advertisement, which follows Trump from his ascent to the White House to his legal disputes since then, has been prominently displayed on his other social media accounts in recent weeks.

In less than an hour, the X post received over 4.8 million views, over 50,000 reposts, and 21,000 comments.

This is Donald Trump's second post on X after his account got suspended

Donald Trump only posted on X for the second time on Monday, August 12, since his account was suspended following the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, and then restored the following year.

Since then, the only other post he has made was on August 24, 2023, sharing a picture of his mug shot that day after turning himself in Fulton County, Georgia.

Elon Musk was behind reinstating Donald Trump's account

Elon Musk, who was in charge of reactivating Donald Trump's account upon his acquisition of X in 2022, would speak with the former president on Monday. Live streaming of the interview will begin at 8 pm EDT on Trump's official account.

The “live conversation” will be “unscripted with no limits on subject matter,” Musk wrote Sunday, adding it “should be highly entertaining.” He encouraged users to post specific questions and comments under the stream’s chat.

Why did Elon Musk restore Donald Trump's account?

Elon Musk restored Donald Trump's account in 2022 as part of the tech billionaire's new strategy for the platform's content management guidelines. Since then, late last year, he has restored the accounts of a few more contentious people, including far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

Trump was well-known for using that platform to announce significant decisions from the White House to poke fun at his political rivals during the 2016 presidential campaign and his first term in office.

Soon after the attempted assassination of Trump last month, Musk supported the former president's reelection campaign. Since then, he has attacked Vice President Kamala Harris, who emerged as the Democratic nominee for president after Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 contest, reported The Hill.

Internet is 'literally shaking' after Donald Trump's social media post

Netizens showered Donald Trump with love and support after the former president gave a rare post on X before his interview with Elon Musk.

One X user tweeted, "I’m literally shaking right now."

Another wrote, "If you listen closely... you can hear leftists screaming in the distance."

"The man, the myth, the legend," remarked one while someone else wrote, "We are back! Getting the band back together! LFG!"
