WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump appears to be manifesting his own revenge fantasy.

Over the weekend, the president flooded his platform, Truth Social, with posts and ended the barrage on July 20 by resharing an AI-generated video of Barack Obama being arrested by the FBI and tossed into prison in an orange jumpsuit.

The video, cooked up by a pro-MAGA TikTok user, opens with a supercut of Obama and other top Democrats proclaiming that “no one is above the law.” Then enters the internet’s alt-right mascot, Pepe the Frog, dressed as a clown and honking its nose.

The subsequent piece de resistance is an AI-generated animation showing Obama being arrested in the Oval Office during his November 2016 sit-down with then-president-elect Trump.

The whole sequence is bizarrely soundtracked to Trump’s rally banger, the Village People’s “YMCA.”

MAGA loses its mind over prospect of Barack Obama's arrest

Donald Trump’s video drop followed a weekend rampage during which he posted at least 17 times about Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard’s claims that the Obama administration orchestrated a “treasonous conspiracy” to kneecap Trump’s 2016 win.

The former congresswoman alleged that declassified documents prove Barack Obama and his inner circle “politicized intelligence to lay the groundwork for what was essentially a years-long coup against President Trump.”

Democrats weren’t having it. Senator Mark Warner of Virginia, the top Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, called it "one more example of the director of national intelligence trying to cook the books.”

But MAGA country was lapping it up. The AI Obama video lit up right-wing social media July 20 night.

“MAKE THIS A REALITY,” posted conservative journo Nick Sortor on X, tagging Trump loyalist and former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi.

“When the president of America posts a video of you being arrested and in prison, you better pack a bag quickly. Things aren’t going well for Obummer,” one Trump supporter crowed.

“What a GLORIOUS day that would be! I have major doubts that it will ever happen but a Patriot can hope, can’t he!??” another posted wistfully.

“He’s introducing the idea to the public b/c it’s probably going to happen. Smart move,” one fan claimed.

Still, not all Trump fans are convinced.

"It's been HALF A YEAR. I'm not falling for this bullshit anymore,” one user fumed. “Remember how we used to laugh at Democrats every time they said the walls were closing in on Trump? That's you right now."

Another chimed in, "This is so stupid. Actually start arresting people or stop talking about it. It’ll never happen."

"Trump wouldn’t go after Hillary. What makes you think he’ll go after Obama? 'It’ll look bad,'" someone else sneered.

Regardless, Trump seems fully committed to the revenge tour concept. Along with the Obama arrest fantasy, he also posted a collage of fake mugshots featuring a whole crew of Obama-era officials, including James Comey, Samantha Power, and Susan Rice, all sporting matching orange jumpsuits. He even floated the idea of jailing Democratic Senator Adam Schiff.

Donald Trump is a convicted felon himself

All of this comes just after Donald Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, a historic first for any former US president. But that May 2024 conviction hasn’t stopped him from lobbing accusations or fantasizing about locking up his political enemies. He’s currently appealing the verdict, of course.

While Trump may be cheering on cartoonish arrests of his predecessors, the legal deck is also stacked in his favor.

The conservative-heavy Supreme Court ruled last summer that presidents have immunity for official acts while in office. This decision serves as a major shield for Trump, but also raises a giant question mark over whether any real legal action could ever touch someone like Barack Obama.
