WASHINGTON, DC: Speculations of a growing rift between President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk were fueled by the announcement that the latter would not be getting an office in the West Wing of the White House, Nicki Swift reported on Wednesday, January 22.

Musk is leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) single-handedly after the exit of Vivek Ramaswamy as his co-chair. According to the New York Post, he was initially expected to take an office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building within the White House complex.

However, Musk apparently wanted to be in closer proximity to the POTUS and was asking officials about his level of access. Since endorsing Trump in the 2024 election, Musk has reportedly spent over $277 million to help Trump's administration come into power.

Donald Trump's apparent attempts to distance himself from Elon Musk

Donald Trump denied reports of Elon Musk receiving an office in the West Wing during a press conference on the night of January 20, Monday.

"He’s getting an office for about 20 people that we’re hiring to make sure these (executive orders) get implemented," stated the commander-in-chief.

While he tried to put a positive spin on the issue, Trump has been apparently hinting at getting weary of Musk for months. Back in November following his electoral victory, Trump commented on Musk's extended stay at Mar-a-Lago during a House Republican conference meeting at Capitol Hill.

A person present in the room reportedly told the Daily Mail about Trump joking, "Elon won't go home. I can't get rid of him. Until I don't like him."

Trump's recent behavior toward Musk is being considered by many as passive-aggressive. He reportedly snubbed the tech billionaire during his entrance at the Capitol Rotunda to be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20.

The latest development suggests that the drama may spill over into the workplace, per Nicki Swift.
