ATLANTA, GEORGIA: In a dramatic turn of events, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis admitted to a "personal relationship" with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, whom she had hired to investigate Donald Trump for the Georgia election interference case.

The revelation came as a response to the allegations made by Michael Roman, a co-defendant in the case who sought the dismissal of charges against him based on the information obtained from a divorce.

Fani Willis blasted the claims as 'salacious'

Citing the information Roman obtained from the divorce proceeding, the details claimed that Willis and Wade were romantically involved.

However, the court filings by Willis labeled the claims as "salacious" and argued against any conflict of interest claims against her.

As per the filing, "much of Defendant Roman’s motion relies on supposition and innuendo regarding the private relationship between District Attorney Willis and Special Prosecutor Wade."

The DA stated that there was "no financial conflict of interest that constitutes a legal basis for disqualification," adding that there was "no personal conflict of interest that justifies her disqualification personally or that of the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office."

Willis' filing then described "attacks" on Wade's qualifications as "factually inaccurate, unsupported, and malicious, in addition to providing no basis whatsoever to dismiss the indictment or disqualify Special Prosecutor Wade."

"District Attorney Willis has no personal conflict of interest that justifies her disqualification personally or that of the Fulton County District Attorney's Office,' the DA wrote, according to Daily Mail.

Trump supporters seek removal of Fani Willis from her DA position

The admission of a private relationship invites further complexity to the high-profile case, raising questions about the fairness of the legal proceedings.

Trump supporters slammed Fulton County DA after she acknowledged her relationship with Wade while some netizens opined the admission should not affect the case against the former president.

"Remove Fani Willis, stop intentionally protecting her," a user wrote on X (formerly Twitter), while another tweeted, "Fani Willis is in a little bit of trouble."

"Any crime Fani Willis has committed should be investigated and if charges are warranted, then she should get a trial. I do not affect the evidence and charges against Trump. He needs to go to trial," opined another user.

"I don't think it hurts the credibility of the case. The credibility of the case stands or falls on its own merits. It certainly could hurt the credibility of Fani Willis, but then you would simply need to check the indictments and you will find they are credible on their own," another user remarked.
