WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump has reiterated his stance on the upcoming 2024 presidential elections as he said he would refuse to unconditionally accept the results if it is not "honest."

"If everything’s honest, I’ll gladly accept the results. I don’t change on that," the former president said in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Wednesday, May 1.

“If it’s not, you have to fight for the right of the country," he added.

Donald Trump renews doubt on election integrity

Trump has consistently sought to undermine confidence in the electoral system should he face defeat in the November election.

During the interview, the 77-year-old politician continued to make false claims about the 2020 elections as he asserted that he won the state of Wisconsin despite President Joe Biden's win by about 21,000 votes.

“If you go back and look at all of the things that had been found out, it showed that I won the election in Wisconsin,” the former president said, adding, “It also showed I won the election in other locations.”

Donald Trump says he expects to win 'maybe very big'

Despite his skepticism, Trump explained that he would "let it be known" if he believed the upcoming presidential election was not "honest."

“I’d be doing a disservice to the country if I said otherwise,” he told the Journal Sentinel, adding, “But no, I expect an honest election and we expect to win maybe very big.”

“But if everything’s honest, which we anticipate it will be — a lot of changes have been made over the last few years — but if everything’s honest, I will absolutely accept the results,” he continued.

“I want people that vote to cast an honest ballot. I want the ballots to be counted honestly. I don’t want people going to legislatures and getting things not approved and then doing it anyway,” Trump added.

The former president, who is currently facing trial in the hush money case that stemmed from allegations of falsifying business records to conceal his payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 elections, has repeatedly claimed the 2020 election was "stolen," with no evidence to support his claims.

Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 presidential election. In 2023, special counsel Jack Smith indicted Trump alleging the businessman of attempting to overturn the 2020 elections.

However, the former president has vehemently denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to CNN.

Internet slams Donald Trump as he says he'll not accept election results if it's not 'honest'

Reacting to Trump's statement that he will only accept the election results if it is honest, one user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, "What does he know about honesty?" and another user wrote, "Which means he will not accept results if he loses."

"And by 'honest' he means 'in his favor,'" a netizen tweeted and another user commented, "It's only going to be honest if he wins though right?"

One user wrote, "Everyone knows that the only time something is honest is when trump wins. If it is not in his favor, it is rigged."
