WASHINGTON, DC: Former President Donald Trump tried to woo the Libertarians, urging them to endorse him while abandoning their party, during his appearance at the Libertarian Party National Convention in Washington DC on Saturday, May 25, reported the New York Post.

The Republican presumptive nominee's plea to the raucous third-party voters gathered at the Washington Hilton to vote for him was met with loud boos, unlike his speeches at MAGA rallies.

"Nominate me or at least vote for me," the 45th president urged the Libertarian party and MAGA voters. "We need your help. We need your support."

Trump's presence at the Libertarian Party's convention, considered unconventional for a GOP candidate, stemmed from the necessity to address likely threats from third-party candidates, including Robert F Kenndy Jr, according to CNN.

Trump says he is a Libertarian

In his attempt to court the third-party voters, the former president described himself as a Libertarian, referring to his legal troubles.

"We're going to have a lot of fun," Trump declared and added he was "sure as hell" a Libertarian because of the federal indictments against him. He also offered his "hand in friendship" to the third party.

However, Trump's unconventional appearance received "lock him up" chants and boos like "we want Trump" and "end the Fed" during his speech.

Furthermore, the real estate mogul pointed out the things he concurred with the Libertarian Party. "Everyone here tonight believes in the same fundamental freedom of religion, freedom of the right to own a firearm and freedom taxation," he stated.

The soon-to-be formal GOP nominee also promised to appoint a Libertarian in his cabinet and commute Silk Road dark web founder Ross Ulbicht's sentence if elected in November.

Trump's bid to the Libertarians came after he stepped up attacks against independent presidential candidate Kennedy, who could be a decisive factor in the outcome of the November election. His campaign fears that support for Kennedy could adversely impact the vote share in an election expected to yield a narrow victory to the winner.

The independent contender joined the convention on Friday, May 24.

Addressing the National Rifle Association last week, Trump defended his decision to attend the Libertarian Convention, citing the vote share they offered.

"We have to join with (Libertarians) because they get their 3% every year, no matter who's running," the president said, "and we have to get that 3% because we can't take a chance on Joe Biden winning."

Internet reacts to Trump's attempt to court Libertarian voters

Social media users taunted the MAGA spearhead's unusual plea to the Libertarians to vote for him in the upcoming election.

One user wrote, "Brutal! First his embarrassingly small rally in The Bronx and now this. Trump is circling the drain. Next week: GUILTY!"

"Why would libertarians embrace a fascist? Don't see it happening," another remarked.

A third user added, "And they booed him mercilessly." Meanwhile, a fourth response read, "And they all rejected him lol."

Another person quipped, "Annnnnnd he sank like an abortion pill in someone's morning coffee."

"The hilarious part was that @realDonaldTrump couldn't even pronounce Libertarian correctly, he tried and tried. Based on the boos, I don't think that he's getting much support from the Libertarians. The boos were the only raucous part. Trump tried to woo them and failed to do so," someone else chimed in.

An individual wrote, "Absolutely no wants Trump and PAY your child support. Your kids deserve it, traitor!"

Another person added, "Trump is an entertainer. That's it. And that's fine. But when you have a good enough memory to remember the exploding deficit, the lockdowns, the vaccine push, and utterly abandoning the J6 protestors while wondering why he didn't free Ross when he had the chance, or pardon Assange or Snowden, or stop the wars we were in, or actually do something, ANYTHING, about the deep state, then you'll see why there's still hostility from libertarians."
