WASHINGTON, DC: Donald Trump was called out online after he spoke about the 104% reciprocal tariff on Chinese goods at the National Republican Congressional Committee’s (NRCC) annual fundraising dinner.

During the Tuesday, April 8, event, the president said, “Right now, China is paying a 104% tariff. It sounds ridiculous, but they charged us for many items 100-125%," the Daily Post reported.

“Many countries have. They’ve ripped us off left and right. But now it’s our turn to do the ripping!” he asserted.

But Ed Krassenstein, creator and co-host of the 'KrassenCast' podcast, soon slammed Trump by tweeting, “Wrong Mr Trump.  China isn’t paying a 104% Tariff.  Americans are paying it.  If you still think China is paying for it then you should be impeached for stupidity.”

Internet calls Donald Trump’s tariffs ‘ridiculous’

People on social media slammed Donald Trump's massive tariff hikes and called them "ridiculous."

When an X user asked, “So like things cost double now?” Krassenstein replied, “It will essentially cost US companies and individuals twice as much to buy something from China.”

A critic of the 47th Commander-in-Chief posted, “More pain … this is getting ridiculous. New lows everyday. Massive losses since January 20th.”

Another critic said, “I think he knows the cost is going to hit the American people; but he wants the American people to think it won't. And when it does, he'll find another scapegoat, or say ‘short term pain for long term gain’ or whatever. The words that come out of his mouth are what he wants people to believe, not what he actually believes.”

“It's basic math, I can’t understand how they don’t understand it? I mean Trump probably knows, and he is just manipulating his cult,” a tweet read.

“Trump's 104% tariff on China is a disaster, markets are tanking, and Americans are footing the bill, not China. His economic ignorance is costing us billions. Time to rethink this reckless policy before it’s too late,” another person wrote.

A person wrote, “Unfortunately, if stupidity was a reason to get the votes needed for impeachment Trump would have been gone 8 years ago.”

Floridian Catherine Foster, 58, told BBC, “I’m probably a couple of years away from retiring and I don't know if I'm going to be able to... Trump is not a king and I feel like our congress and senate is letting us down, both parties, by not pushing back.”

“Trump's trade tantrum hits Americans right in the pocket, while China n moscovia pop champagne. clown taxes his own people, calls it ‘winning’. empire pays the fool’s bill,” a person on X shared.

Donald Trump's supporters say ‘tariffs don’t exist in a vacuum’

But there were a few who supported Donald Trump’s tariffs.

“Wrong, Ed. The tariffs are strategically designed to hit China where it hurts while bringing jobs back home. Americans are winning, and the left's whining won’t change that,” an X user claimed.

Another supporter of Trump added, “Tariffs don’t exist in a vacuum. When foreign manufacturers lose access to the U.S. market unless they pay a premium, they move production here to avoid the cost. That means jobs, factories, and investment land in America instead of overseas.”

“You have to ignore Mr. Ed’s simplistic, uneducated, typical dumb ass liberal response. He doesn’t understand tariffs, he doesn’t understand negotiating, he doesn’t understand leading from a position of power. You are spot on, and @POTUS is working overtime to normalize trade and put America back where she belongs, leading the free world,” a tweet read.
