FULTON COUNTY, GEORGIA: A Georgia appeals court has paused the election interference case against former President Donald Trump and several co-defendants.

It was after the court took up an appeal for the judicial panel's decision on whether Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis should be disqualified.

Donald Trump's Georgia election subversion trial won't likely occur before 2024 presidential election

The new order filed on Wednesday, June 5,  from the Georgia Court of Appeals is the latest indication that a trial in the state-level Georgia election subversion case will not occur before the 2024 presidential election, as per CNN and other media outlets.

The appeals court is set to hear oral arguments on Trump's bid to disqualify Willis in October, according to Axios.

ATLANTA, GA - MARCH 01: Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis arrives during a hearing in the case of the State of Georgia v. Donald John Trump at the Fulton County Courthouse on March 1, 2024, in Atlanta, Georgia. The hearing is to determine whether Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis should be removed from the case because of a relationship with Nathan Wade, special prosecutor she hired in the election interference case against former President Donald Trump. "It's another win for Trump," the outlet noted, who was convicted on 34 felony counts in New York in a hush-money case on 34 counts of falsifying business records.

DA Fani Willis created a 'conflict of interest' due to relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade

The decision of the appeals court to halt the proceedings comes as it considers whether Willis should be disqualified from prosecuting the case due to her relationship with Nathan Wade, a leading prosecutor also involved in the case.

The relationship between Willis and then-special prosecutor Nathan Wade was highlighted during a series of hearings where they both testified to defend their previous relationship.

Judge Scott McAfee eventually decided that Willis could stay on the case provided Wade stepped down, which he agreed to do. Both prosecutors have asserted that their relationship was appropriate as per The Hill.

Willis and Wade's relationship also caused "a conflict of interest" among Trump and co-defendants in the case. Willis has criticized "the accusations as politically motivated."

Internet reacts to halt on Donald Trump's election interference case

There were mixed reactions on the internet to the halt of the proceedings in Trump's election interference case.

"This has been the game plan since January 6 failed. No surprise, unless how deeply committed the entire sitting GOP (legislatures, judges, state & county execs) are to the coup," one wrote on X.

"The American justice system is increasingly becoming a laughing stock!" wrote one more.

One noted, "The Willis-Wade issue created its own problem, here, for this case. Judge McAfee missed his chance to resolve this matter when he didn't properly address the conflict of interest sufficiently, IMO."

"We're sick and tired of the stalling and delays! What can we do as citizens?" asked one. "HUGE WIN!" one Trump supporter wrote.

"There was no case to begin with. This was a political hit job with a little racism thrown in," wrote one more.

One mocked at the decision saying, "The election interference case is election interference." One more wrote, "That’s not surprising!"
