ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Donald Trump and his co-defendants have been allowed to appeal the order letting Fani Willis continue to prosecute the 2020 Georgia election interference case.

On Wednesday, March 20, a Georgia judge greenlit the former President's motion to disqualify the Fulton County District Attorney from the election subversion case, according to CNN.

Will Donald Trump's appeal pause the prosecution of the Georgia election case?

Trump's appeal against Willis does not pause the prosecution. However, the move allows the appeal regarding the disqualification effort to be addressed before the trial proceeds.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee recently ruled against the defendant's attempts to disqualify Willis.

However, he has now issued a certificate of immediate review as McAfee wrote it is "of such importance to the case that immediate review should be had," allowing the case to be reviewed by a Georgia Appeals Court.

The court will be reviewing the decision not to disqualify DA Willis and will be deciding if it will be taking up the case.

Inside ruling allowing Fani Willis to stay on Donald Trump's Georgia case

McAfee, who is overseeing the election interference case ruled that Willis can proceed with the prosecution of Trump for his alleged attempts to undermine the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.

However, the ruling forced the resignation of Nathan Wade who was Willis' top deputy on the case.

The special prosecutor then resigned from his post in the Fulton County District Attorney's Office on March 15.

Trump and his co-defendants consistently argued that Willis and Wade, who eventually admitted to being involved in a personal relationship, created a conflict of interest that should have resulted in their disqualification.

Speaking about McAfee's ruling on Wednesday, Steve Sadow, the lead defense counsel for the former president in the case, called the motion "highly significant."

“The defense is optimistic that appellate review will lead to the case being dismissed and the DA being disqualified,” he stated.
