WASHINGTON, DC: Fox News host Lawrence Jones was joined by Donald Trump's attorney Will Scharf to discuss the upcoming conclusion of the criminal hush money trial of the former President on the May 27 episode of 'Fox & Friends.'

With closing arguments set to begin the following day, Scharf argued that Trump should ideally be acquitted as evidence presented during the trial showed that he did nothing wrong.

Speaking with Jones about the trial nearing its end, Scharf said that the defense plans "to focus on the evidence" for their closing arguments.

"You're going to hear us lay out a full view of what the evidence in this trial has actually been. And if you just look at the evidence, if you sort of screen out all the tabloid gossip and all of the media sensationalism, the evidence shows that President Trump did absolutely nothing wrong, that he is absolutely innocent of the crimes alleged in the indictment and that the prosecution has abjectly failed to meet its burden of proving beyond a reasonable doubt that any crime occurred here," he continued.

Claiming to have the facts and evidence on their side, Scharf mentioned that "any fair jury would speedily acquit President Trump because this is not a case that should have ever been brought in the first place."

Will Scharf accuses Judge Juan Merchan of bias

"I think a fair judge would dismiss this case, just because of how little real evidence has been introduced over the course of this entire trial," Scharf told Jones when asked about his expectations on the ruling.

"We believe, obviously, that Judge Merchan has irretrievable biases, we have seen that play out in court in a number of different ways. I think he should have recused himself of the case, and that's an issue we plan on continuing to press," he shared.

"A directed verdict here before it even gets to the jury would be a just outcome, but we are prepared to take this case to the jury and we hope that (they would) stand up for what's right, objectively review the evidence ... and if they do so, we believe we will get an acquittal," added the attorney.
