Dora Jordan: 93-year-old woman dies after being left on floor for days without food and water
GEORGIA, ATLANTA: Dora Jordan, a 93-year-old grandmother, passed away in October 2021 after being left alone on her bedroom floor for several days without food or water in her residence.
Subsequent to her demise, her granddaughter Angela Nicole Patton and Patton's boyfriend, David Glyn Smith, face murder charges.
Haralson County Sheriff's Office apprehended Angela Nicole Patton, 42, and her boyfriend David Glyn Smith, 50, following a grand jury indictment that charged the couple with felony murder and cruelty to a 93-year-old person.
It is noteworthy that authorities discovered the woman on her bedroom floor a month before her eventual death.
What happened to Dora Jordan?
On September 27, 2021, Haralson County Sheriff Stacy Williams conducted a welfare check at a residence for an elderly individual and heard a "faint cry for help."
Upon entering, he discovered Jordan on the bedroom floor in a 'very weak condition'.
Deputies determined that Jordan had fallen and had been without food or water for an "extended period of time."
The following evening, Patton, purportedly her caregiver, and David Glyn Smith returned home, leading to their arrest on charges of cruelty to a person 65 years or older.
In March 2022, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the manner of death a homicide, prompting the reopening of the investigation by Haralson County. After a lengthy and thorough investigation, the grand jury indicted Patton and Smith on December 4.
Patton and Smith were discovered hiding in a garage on a property in nearby Floyd County and allegedly refused to surrender when deputies arrived on Saturday. Deputies secured a search warrant for the shed and apprehended them. The suspects were then escorted to the Haralson County Jail, where they currently remain without bond.
Willaims claimed, “This case shocked the consciousness of so many citizens when we made the original arrest. Good people don’t understand how anyone could mistreat an elderly person, much less a grandparent. This case became even worse when Mrs. Jordan passed away from this treatment" as per Law&Crime.
