WASHINGTON, DC: Governor Doug Burgum of North Dakota was awkwardly reminded of his past criticism of Donald Trump when he recently went all "dear leader" in his praise of the former president, according to HuffPost.

Notably, Burgum, who is reportedly striving to become the leading contender for the Republican vice presidential nomination, spoke admirably about his prospective future leader to Shannon Bream of Fox News over the weekend.

Doug Burgum's changed stance on Trump sparks an awkward reminder of his past criticism

Burgum said during the interview, "This guy is tireless, he’s committed, he’s smart, he’s funny. He’s nothing like he’s portrayed in the press."

Burgum declared that he would "absolutely" engage with Trump due to the former president's accomplishments in politics, real estate, and television. Burgum withdrew his presidential candidacy in December 2023.

"We should be grateful that we’ve got someone with that kind of talent from the private sector that’s willing to put himself back in the presidential race again," he added.

However, this contradicts Burgum's stance in July 2023 during his interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd, where he clearly stated that he had no intention of going into business with Donald Trump.

He said, "I don’t think so. I just think that it’s important that you are judged by the company you keep." Burgum stated at the time that if Trump became the GOP's nominee, he would still have his vote.

Internet trolls Doug Burgum as changed stance on Trump sparks awkward reminder of past criticism

Several internet users criticized Burgum as he faced an awkward reminder of his past criticism of Donald Trump when he recently showed strong admiration akin to a "dear leader."

A user posted on X, "Less than a year ago, Burgum said he would never do business with Trump, saying 'it’s important that you’re judged by the company you keep.' Ambition sure changes a person," while one added, "All those bankruptcies sure do indicate a talent."

A person also stated, "Does this man think we forget what he said about Trump before? OMG Doug you are a FAKE a FRAUD and can't be trusted," whereas one mentioned, "Says the guy @DougBurgum who said he’d never do business with djt because you are known by the company you keep." [sic]

A user also wrote, "Translation: this loser is trying to save on his taxes," while one stated, "He's bankrupted every business venture he's had and has been found liable for fraud. He and his kids even stole from their own charities, but by all means let's hand them the keys to the castle once again." [sic]

A person added, "You know @DougBurgum, we all saw the clip of you telling the world that you would NEVER do business with trumpanzee. When you don't get VP, will love to hear you back to being that guy on the clip again. You are so SPINELESS." [sic]
