Kerstin Emhoff says her divorced husband Doug Emhoff continues to be a great friend

Kerstin Emhoff said that Doug Emhoff was still a great friend to her despite his nasty affair during their marriage.

"Doug and I decided to end our marriage for a variety of reasons, many years ago," Kerstin told the Washington Post in a statement Saturday, August 3.

"He is a great father to our kids, continues to be a great friend to me and I am really proud of the warm and supportive blended family Doug, Kamala [Harris], and I have built together," she added.

Doug admitted to having an affair with a nanny shortly after Daily Mail published a report last week that the second gentleman of the United States had an affair with his daughter's nanny and got her pregnant.

The nanny's close friend told the outlet that she did not keep the baby but did not elaborate further either.

"During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side," Doug told CNN last week of the affair.

Kamala Harris married Doug Emhoff in 2014 and helped in co-parenting his children with Kerstin Emhoff

Doug Emhoff and his first wife Kerstin Emhoff were married from 1992 to 2008 and share two adult children.

Vice President Kamala Harris married Doug in 2014 and helped co-parent his children, who call their stepmom "mommala."

The reason for the divorce in 2009 was reportedly cited as "irreconcilable differences," according to Fox News.

Prior to their marriage, Harris was aware of the affair, and Joe Biden's 2020 campaign was aware of it when it was vetting her for his vice presidential nominee, as per the publication.

Despite the affair and divorce, Kerstin has posted supportive messages regarding her ex-husband's second wife.

"LFG!!!! It’s time for Democrats to put their differences aside and find common ground. We can’t give up and lose to DJT. ALL HANDS ON DECK!! Kamala Harris for President!" she posted to her Instagram account, accompanied by a Time cover of Harris following President Biden dropping out of the 2024 race.

When a video resurfaced of Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance criticizing Harris for not having children of her own, Kerstin defended the US vice president.

"For over 10 years, since Cole and Ella were teenagers, Kamala has been a co-parent with Doug and I," she told CNN last month in defense of the vice president.

"She is loving, nurturing, fiercely protective and always present," Kerstin continued. "I love our blended family and am grateful to have her in it."

Internet reacts to Kerstin Emhoff’s support for ex-husband Doug Emhoff

Social media users conjectured that Kerstin Emhoff was getting paid for supporting ex-husband Doug Emhoff and Kamala Harris as the US presidential elections are nearing.

"She is getting paid BIG BUCKS," wrote one on X (Twitter).

"I feel sorry for all the children involved in this mess," wrote another. "He is a donkey," wrote one.

Another commented, "They are weird!" Someone else remarked, "Money talks, so she won't!"

"He still gives her money no doubt," wrote another. "LMAO at Trumpers suddenly pretending to care about one affair, especially by someone who’s never run for any public office," lashed out one more.
