WASHINGTON, DC: Dr Mehmet Oz, head of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, praised President Donald Trump as a "wonderful human being" after he personally called and consoled the wife of a man who fainted during an Oval Office event on Thursday, November 6.
The incident occurred during the administration’s announcement about reducing the price of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs for Medicare and Medicaid recipients. Dr Oz said Trump showed compassion by speaking with the woman after witnessing the medical emergency, describing the gesture as deeply personal and unexpected.

In an interview with MSNBC reporter Jake Traylor, Dr Oz recounted how Donald Trump stepped in to comfort the wife of the man who fainted during the event.
“I’ll tell you a story that speaks loudly to the kind of person the president is,” Oz said. “So, I wanted to speak to the wife to let her know what was happening, but also to comfort her. The president saw me in the corridor and he came over and said, ‘Who are you talking to?’”
Dr Oz continued, “After I told him, he said, ‘Give me the phone.’ He talked to her and got her much calmer than I could have done.”
He added, “And I just think he’s just a wonderful human being, that he would take time. He could’ve gone and done ten other things, but he actually cared that the wife of a man that he’s never met before felt in a safer place.”
Man faints during Trump’s drug pricing announcement
The medical emergency unfolded as Donald Trump was announcing that GLP-1 weight-loss drugs would be made more affordable for Medicare and Medicaid recipients beginning next year.
Witnesses said the president got up from his desk and stood silently observing as medical staff rushed to help. Dr Oz later confirmed that the man, reportedly a patient using one of the GLP-1 drugs, had recovered.

“During the Most Favored Nations Oval Office Announcement, a representative with one of the companies fainted,” said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt in a statement. “The White House Medical Unit quickly jumped into action, and the gentleman is okay.”
Speaking later to Newsmax anchor Greta Van Susteren, Dr Oz offered practical advice for bystanders who might face similar emergencies.
“If you see someone whose knees are beginning to buckle and their eyes are going back, don’t watch what happens. These folks will actually get hurt worse by the fall than by dealing with what underlying condition may have been - too low blood sugar, et cetera,” he said.
“Give the person a bear hug, even if you don’t know them,” Dr Oz added. “Guide them to the floor, gently put them [down], and then lift their legs up to get their blood pressure up.”
