MENDHAM TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY: Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has been facing a furious backlash after launching a new ad in New Hampshire portraying himself as the only GOP nominee willing to criticize former President Donald Trump.

In the ad, which began running on Thursday, December 28, Christie also pushed back on calls for him to drop out of the 2024 Republican presidential primary.

“Some people say I should drop out of this race. Really? I’m the only one saying Donald Trump is a liar,” the Republican nominee said in the direct-to-camera ad, which launched on broadcast and digital platforms.

With this fresh seven-figure ad buy, Christie's team is strategically increasing the amount of funds allocated to their all-in-on-fresh Hampshire approach in advance of the primary on January 23

“The ad’s tone and message stand in stark contrast to what we saw last night in New Hampshire,” the campaign said of the new ad.

“This is a different campaign because Christie is telling the truth in a way that no other candidate is willing to — no matter the topic,” the campaign added, according to NBC News.

What did Christie say about Trump?

In the campaign ad, Christie claimed that the 77-year-old front-runner for the GOP nomination would “burn America to the ground” to earn his favors.

“He pits Americans against each other. His Christmas message to anyone who disagrees with him — rot in hell,” the former New Jersey governor said.

“He caused a riot on Capitol Hill. He’ll burn America to the ground to help himself. What kind of resident do we want? A liar or someone who has the guts to tell the truth?” he added.

During a recent campaign trail, several people questioned Christie why he hasn't withdrawn from the race and backed former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley.

Christie responded to this voter by saying, “If she’s really against Trump show me, show me. Don’t hedge. If you show me well, then maybe I have something to think about.”

“But if you don’t show me, I’ve got nothing to think about because I’m not doing this in order to then get in league with someone who would get in league with Trump,” he added.

The campaign began airing the commercial in the state the morning after Haley said that "the role of government" was more important than slavery in causing the Civil War.

Internet reacts to Christie’s new ad

After Christie’s new campaign ad surfaced on social media, many users slammed him for calling Trump a liar and saying that he would burn America.

“Drop out now or drop out later but drop out you will,” one user slammed.

“And because of your stance, .00000001% support you so what does that tell you? Drop out!!” the second user trolled.

“He's not going to be on the ballot” the third user mocked while the fourth one said, “Chris Christie defended Trump being removed from the Colorado ballot. He’s a worthless POS.”

“My response: Drop out and treat yourself to some donuts or don't or do both... Whatever you want to do. It matters not, really,” the fifth user joked.

“Yeah, that’s a great reason for you to be president. Get lost, clown,” one more wrote.
