NORTHRIDGE, LOS ANGELES: An elderly Los Angeles woman took her own life following an escalated eviction dispute that left another victim hospitalized, per Yahoo

The shooting was reported at 11:25 am on Friday, February 16 in the 17000 block of Plummer Street, near Balboa Boulevard, where a woman in her 40s was found inside a car with gunshot wounds.

The 70-year-old suspect killed herself

ABC 7 reports that the incident took place on Friday morning at an apartment building in Northridge, where a district manager at the complex was shot after getting into an argument with one of her tenants.

The 40-year-old victim was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition. As reported by the news station, "She was reportedly 'in and out' of consciousness and was transported to a nearby hospital where she remains in critical condition."

As SWAT teams arrived to try and find the gunman, the altercation between the landlord and renter resulted in a police standoff. Authorities discovered the 70-year-old female suspect, who had self-inflicted a gunshot wound, dead in her residence a few hours later. "It appears that there was a disagreement concerning the eviction procedure," a police representative said reporters on the spot on Friday afternoon.

LAPD is investigating case

A police representative added, "It was the suspect that was part of the eviction process, and sometime, there was some type of verbal dispute, and then that's when the incident occurred."

No other injuries were reported and the shooting remains under investigation by the LAPD.

A resident, Frank Robinson, told he had gone to the gym and when he returned to the scene, he was told he couldn't get into the apartment building.

"It's a senior retirement community, and everybody gets along and has fun, so it's a complete shock that somebody would actually shoot somebody here in the streets," he said.

Additionally, Dearborn Elementary, Balboa Magnet, and Holmes Middle School were locked down during the investigation. However, the lockdowns have since been lifted and the schools have been deemed safe for students and safe.
