Elise Stefanik says migrants displacing children in NYC school is 'unacceptable' as she appears on 'Fox & Friends'

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Republican representative of New York, Elise Stefanik joined co-host Brian Kilmeade on the January 10 episode of 'Fox & Friends' to discuss the migrant crisis, as nearly 2000 of them were placed inside a high school in the city.

Kilmeade began the segment by addressing an "outrage" over school students being forced to stay at home and learn remotely as a result, with the taxpayers of the city having to bear an additional cost of at least $20 million per month over the crisis.

Why were migrants moved inside a high school?

According to New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ office, the migrants were shifted from their tent shelter at Floyd Bennett Field for safety reasons due to the incoming storms and potential high winds.

James Madison High School was chosen to serve as a "temporary overnight respite center". It was closed on January 10 as a result, with students shifting to online classes only for a day.

'Look at who's paying the price'

Stefanik justified the outrage of the New Yorkers and blamed the Biden administration for landing them in this situation.

"It outrages every New Yorker and every American. And if you look at the polling, 84% of New Yorkers believe that this is a border crisis, and they know it's a direct result of Joe Biden's failed policies and Eric Adams and Kathy Hochul's failed policies when they rolled out the red carpet to claim they're a sanctuary city, a sanctuary state," she stated.

"Now look at who's paying the price. Hardworking New York families," she continued. "And in the case of this school, over 60% of those kids come from economically disadvantaged families. That is unacceptable. These parents now don't know what to do, and we know there is a negative impact when you're forced to do remote learning. So it is unacceptable."

Call for a Senate bill

Stressing the importance of legislation to address the situation, the chair of the House Republican Conference said that the House Republicans had "passed legislation not allowing illegals to displace students in our schools. The Senate needs to take it up and we need to secure the border".

The congresswoman claimed that support for the Republican party was growing "in all demographics".

"We are expanding our support because it's impacting real people. These crises that Joe Biden has created, number one, which is the border crisis, it's it's impacting and hurting hardworking families. And that's why we are beginning the process to impeach Secretary Mayorkas," she added.
