LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ellen DeGeneres is feeling the burn after her big Netflix comedy comeback went belly-up, and insiders say the fallout is hitting close to home—right into her marriage with Portia de Rossi.

Word on the street is that the pair is going through a serious rough patch. Sources revealed to In Touch that Ellen’s infamous persona has come back to haunt her, and it’s taking a toll on their relationship.

Ellen DeGeneres' 'deposed dictator' status in Hollywood

“Ellen DeGeneres is something like a deposed dictator as far as her reputation in show business is concerned,” a longtime associate of the couple dished. “She’s incredibly famous and ridiculously wealthy, but all of her power and influence have vanished, and they don’t seem like they’re ever coming back.”

Ellen, now 66, chose to end 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' in 2021 — a move she publicly attributed to a desire for change, though many believe it was driven by scandal.

In 2020, she was rocked by allegations from 10 former staffers who accused her of fostering a “toxic” work environment, describing a culture filled with “racism, fear, and intimidation.” The fallout was swift and brutal.

After lying low—like many stars who’ve faced the dreaded “cancel” treatment—Ellen decided to test the waters with an hour-long comedy special on Netflix titled 'For Your Approval'. But the risky attempt at a comeback didn’t land.

“To put it mildly, Ellen’s Netflix special did nothing to reverse her bad reputation,” the source stated bluntly.

In fact, the underwhelming response seems to have poured gasoline on the fire, with Ellen and Portia’s friends in Hollywood murmuring that their marriage is starting to fray under the pressure.

The source suggested Ellen hasn’t changed much since her days as the notorious “queen of mean” on her talk show, which played a part in her ultimate fall from grace.

“It all comes down to Ellen’s defiant, disagreeable tone in the special and the assumption people make that something has to have changed massively behind the scenes in years since Ellen retired from her show,” they added.

Meanwhile, a second source previously told In Touch that Ellen is ready to leave the spotlight for good, looking to “focus on herself and live away from the spotlight.”

“Ellen is still angry and she’s had enough,” the insider revealed. “Her final comedy special is the last time anyone will see her in the public eye.”

Ellen DeGeneres' new venture in skincare raises eyebrows

Despite keeping a low profile, Ellen DeGeneres isn’t giving up on her career entirely. She and Portia, 51, recently started a skincare line together called Kind Science. However, the name has raised some eyebrows given Ellen’s reputation.

“Ellen starting a skincare business with Portia reeks of desperation and suggests that it’s hell at home if they need this new project to work on,” the first source noted, hinting at the crowded field already populated by stars like Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Hailey Bieber, Kylie Jenner, and Jessica Alba.

“It really is the strangest marriage in Hollywood because of all the wacky schemes Ellen has dragged them into as a couple, and a lot of Ellen’s side hustles evaporated after her scandal,” the source continued.

"People are noticing that something seems 'off,'" the insider remarked, "as they've never really seen Ellen behave this way before."
