Ellen DeGeneres jokes her 'Be Kind' catchphrase got her 'kicked out of show business' in Netflix special
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ellen DeGeneres struck a combative tone in the new trailer for her upcoming Netflix comedy special, 'Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval,' where the comedian talked about how she was "kicked out of showbusiness."
In the teaser released by the streaming platform, DeGeneres joked that she would be still doing her talk show if she had used "go f**k yourself' instead of her widely recognized "be kind" catchphrase.
The comedian's upcoming comedy special 'For Your Approval,' which premieres on Netflix on September 24, is expected to be DeGeneres' final one-of-a-kind performance.

Ellen DeGeneres jokes about replacing her motto 'be kind' with 'go f*** yourselves' in Netflix trailer
The former talk show host vanished from view following a string of controversy-filled episodes. DeGeneres has maintained a low profile since the end of her 19-season talk show, 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show,' in 2022.
In the newly released teaser, DeGeneres, 66, announced that she will update the audience on her recent activities when she steps onto the stage for the first time in six years.
DeGeneres addressed the contentious ending of her talk show, in which the comic strolled off into obscurity amid claims of an abusive workplace, general meanness, and toxic work environment.
The shocking aspect of that controversy was that DeGeneres had relied on kindness to build her successful enterprise. However, in the Netflix special's teaser, DeGeneres addressed how her apparent kindness worked against her.
Before addressing the major issue, she talked about starting a garden and purchasing hens. "I got kicked out of show business," she said.
DeGeneres chuckled, "The ‘Be Kind’ girl wasn’t kind, that was the headline. Here’s the problem: I’m a comedian who got a talk show and I ended the show every day by saying, ‘Be kind to one another.’"
"Had I ended the show by saying, ‘Go f*** yourselves,’ people would have been pleasantly surprised to find out I’m kind," she added, as the audience appeared to burst out into laughter.
With a breakthrough performance in 'Finding Nemo' and a cheery talk show, DeGeneres resurrected her career after facing rejection from Hollywood for her choice to come out as gay, both personally and as her character on her sitcom, 'Ellen,' per The Daily Beast.
She ended every episode of her now-ended talk show, for 19 seasons, urging her viewers to "be kind" to one another. However, DeGeneres' apparent failure to heed her own counsel turned into a sensational news item.
It was alleged that DeGeneres' show was a terrible environment to work in and that producers who had been fired had behaved sexually inappropriately. According to reports, the accusations of a bad work culture had also been centered around one producer, per Fox News.
The media coverage negatively impacted her image as "the be kind girl," which prompted DeGeneres to apologize to the crew and declare the end of her program in 2021. The last episode aired in May 2022.
Ellen DeGeneres jokes about women's confidence in Netflix trailer
DeGeneres made comments about women's confidence in other parts of the teaser, stating that "most women aren't raised with confidence. We're too self-conscious, which is why you rarely see a woman playing air guitar."
The comedian also joked that she entered the entertainment industry to "heal her childhood wounds," not for financial gain.
She said, "I thought, if I could make people happy, they'll like me. And if they like me, I'll feel good about myself. And all I can say about that is, thank god for the money!"
As stated in the synopsis of the show, DeGeneres is anticipated to delve "deep into her stand-up roots and brings the laughs through life's most real and absurd realities," per People.
The logline reads: "Ellen gets personal and reveals what she’s been doing since being ‘kicked out of show business.’.. she goes deep into her stand-up roots and brings the laughs through life’s most real and absurd realities."
Internet users have different take on Ellen DeGeneres being 'kicked out'
Social media users have already started sharing memes of Dakota Johnson's iconic "that's not the truth, Ellen" since the teaser debuted where the comedian joked about getting "kicked out of showbusiness."
One user wrote, "Netflix, famously not part of show business."
A second user added, "I bet if she tried hard enough she could get a Netflix special or something."
"Guess she couldn’t find the audience for her brand of comedy!" remarked one, while another quipped, "I will follow where you lead"
Another added, "The "held responsible for being horrible" to "i will explain how i am being silenced in my netflix special" pipeline stays unbeaten"
