Elliott Binney: Oklahoma man arrested after fleeing car crash that killed 16-year-old cheerleader daughter

BIXBY, OKLAHOMA: A 41-year-old father has been apprehended following the death of his 16-year-old cheerleader daughter in a car collision, on Thursday, January 11.
Elliott Binney is accused of allegedly fleeing the car wreck that killed his daughter Shelby Binney, and injured other members of his family.
According to Bixby Police, Elliott Binney was driving during rainy weather and failed to secure a seatbelt on his daughter, Shelby.
Binney's charges include leaving the scene of a fatal collision, first-degree manslaughter, and passing a vehicle in a no-passing zone.
He secured a release from jail by posting a $102,100 bond as per 2 News.
Elliott Binney passed two other vehicles in a no-passing zone
On January 11, at approximately 9.20 pm, the Bixby Police Department responded to a report of a rollover crash near 88th Street and 171st Street.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Shelby Binney had been ejected from the car. Investigators noted that she had not been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Unfortunately, Shelby was pronounced dead at the hospital. Shelby's mother and two siblings were taken to the hospital with injuries.
Before Elliott Binney was booked into Tulsa County Jail, he was taken to a Tulsa hospital.
As per fox23, according to the arrest and booking report, Shelby's mother revealed that she and her husband Elliott Binney were arguing before the crash.
Investigators also found an unsealed bottle of vodka at the scene and Binney admitted to drinking a gulp of it, according to police officials.
The report also states that it was raining on the night of the accident and right before the crash, Binney passed two other vehicles in a no-passing zone.
What did the police report?
According to a witness who spoke to 2 News, upon hearing the crash, he rushed outside and discovered a man wandering near the SUV.
The witness attempted to encourage the man to sit down and inquire about who was inside the SUV.
However, the man seemed disoriented and ran away.
Bixby Police reported that law enforcement in Checotah assisted in locating Elliott, and he was arrested there on Friday morning.
Chief Blish claimed, "The driver fled the scene and we believe he switched vehicles, he fled to a family member's home and switched vehicles and left the area. We were able to track him electronically and ultimately made an arrest this morning.”
What did Bixby Public Schools say?
Shelby Binney was a sophomore and cheerleader at Bixby High School. Bixby Public Schools issued a letter to inform families and staff about Binney's passing.
In the statement, the school said, "Our school family has learned of some very tragic news. Last evening, a Bixby High School student, sophomore Shelby Binney, was killed in a car accident in Bixby."
They added, "We are still gathering details surrounding the accident, yet we know that Shelby was in the vehicle with other family members, several of whom are currently hospitalized. Two of her siblings are students at Central Elementary. Our high school counseling team is visiting impacted classes and activity groups this morning to inform students."
The statement said, "In addition, teachers will be reading a statement to all classes at the high school. The district is prepared to provide support for any students or staff who may need help processing this very difficult news. Our counselors are readily available at all sites."
