Elon Musk hints at stepping down from DOGE after completing his 'revolution' of $1 trillion in gov cuts

WASHINGTON, DC: Tech billionaire Elon Musk hinted that he would step down from his role in President Donald Trump's administration as the chair of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) after he completed his goal of slashing the US deficit by $1 trillion by the end of May during an interview on Fox News that aired on Thursday, March 27.
Appearing on the network with six fellow members of DOGE, the Tesla CEO claimed that he expects to largely complete his goal within 130 days of being a "special government employee.”
DOGE was created after Trump was sworn into the White House for a second term to check "wasteful" government spending. According to The Sunday Times, the functioning of the department has already resulted in thousands of government employees losing their jobs.

Elon Musk describes DOGE's work as a revolution
Elon Musk and his DOGE team were interviewed by Fox News host Bret Baier, who asked the Tesla owner if he would seek to continue to be a part of the Trump administration after the initially stipulated 130 days.
"I think we will have accomplished most of the work required to reduce the deficit by $1 trillion within that time frame," Musk replied.
When questioned about the backlash that DOGE received for their work, Musk argued, "This is a revolution. I think it might be the biggest revolution in the government since the original revolution. But at the end of the day, America’s going to be in much better shape.”

DOGE is facing multiple lawsuits for its work, but Musk labeled the critics as "fraudsters" who were showing "fake righteous indignation."
Later in the interview, Baier reportedly expressed his concern about whether DOGE was functioning within the oversight of Congress, to which Musk responded, "We try to keep Congress as informed as possible."

Musk did note that DOGE's work was moving “slower than I would like,” compared to how he is used to operating in the private sector.
Elon Musk trolled after he calls DOGE's work 'revolutionary'
People on social media took to X (formerly Twitter) to slam Elon Musk's opinion of DOGE's work after he called what the department is doing a "revolution."
"So much revolution that Elon Musk has started accompanying Trump on weekend trips to the golf course. Have some shame, my fallen angel," wrote an X user.
