WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump has formally bid farewell to Elon Musk’s stint as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a position the billionaire held since January.

In a tribute video shared across social media on Friday, May 30, Trump praised Musk’s contributions to the administration. 

The video's caption read, “The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is VICTORIOUS in slashing waste, fraud, and abuse! Thank you, @ElonMusk.”

The video, released by the Trump White House, traces Elon Musk’s political journey from his public endorsement of Donald Trump in July 2024 following an assassination attempt on the then-candidate to his final day in Washington.

The administration shared a list of “DOGE Wins”, detailing major accomplishments under Musk’s leadership. These include canceling more than 500,000 active federal credit cards/accounts and reclaiming $170 billion in taxpayer funds through aggressive audits and system reforms.

In a joint press appearance, Trump awarded Musk the ceremonial “key to the White House,” hailing him for bringing “colossal change to the old ways of doing business in Washington.”

Alongside the video tribute, the White House also shared a series of posts on X, expressing gratitude to Elon Musk for his contributions and service.

“Thank you, @ElonMusk, for your selfless, patriotic service to our country,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson. “Elon and the @DOGE team dug through the bureaucracy and shined a light on MASSIVE waste, fraud, and abuse.”

Johnson added, “They have saved the American people BILLIONS of dollars, and are updating old and inefficient systems across the federal government - all while providing Republicans with a list of targets of pointless programs that Congressional action will address.”
