BRONX, NEW YORK: A 17-year-old girl in the Bronx was the target of a relentless social media bullying campaign. This ended horribly after an accused teenage rival fatally stabbed her on a street during the day, according to police and law enforcement sources.

The oldest of four siblings, Emery Mizell, was fatally stabbed in the chest on Thursday, May 2, at 2.15 pm on Boynton Avenue close to Watson Avenue in the Soundview neighborhood, as reported by the police.

15-year-old girl charged with murder

Police said that the 15-year-old girl who they believed had attacked Mizell, was promptly taken into custody and charged with murder, manslaughter, and illegal possession of a weapon.

She is a minor, therefore, her name has not been disclosed.

Emery's family and friends were devastated by her senseless and tragic death, and they came together for a moving memorial service on Friday, May 3, outside her Evergreen Avenue apartment building.

“She was there for me when no one was there all the time. She gave me advice all the time when I needed it,” Emery’s heartbroken 13-year-old sister Gianna said while speaking with New York Post.

In an attempt to come to terms with her unexpected loss, Gianna, who tragically found herself suddenly being the eldest sibling following the death of her older sister, remembered her "good big sister" with fondness.

They enjoyed dancing and singing together.

“I don’t know how I feel right now. I have mixed emotions right now. At one point, I’m crying. The next minute I’m like, I don’t know. Every time I go through my camera I see her,” said Gianna.

The 15-year-old suspect attended James Monroe High School with Emery, according to Emery's family, but they were unsure of the extent of their connection. Emery and her purported killer were embroiled in a continuous argument, according to police.

Police sources informed that the victim had been subjected to a barrage of harassment on social media before the murder.

Emery's second cousin Latanya Mizell claimed she was unaware of the alleged bullying on social media but that if it were real, it would only exacerbate the tragedy.

“These are kids, both of them. They both lost their lives. That right there is hurtful enough as a whole because we got to be better with our kids,” said Latanya.

“They shouldn’t be fighting because somebody said this about that person. It’s stupid stuff. It’s not worth taking somebody’s life,” Latanya stated, adding that she wants to see the teen charged even though the suspect is a minor.

“I really just wish I could hold my cousin again.”

Gianna, meanwhile, claimed that she has already experienced stress from stepping into Emery’s shoes. Both of them had a step-sibling on their mother's side in addition to two younger siblings.

“I feel like it’s going to be hard for me because I’m going to have to watch all these siblings by myself. They’re still babies,” Gianna said.

Josiah, 6 and Toni, 8 both looked shocked by the memorial and didn't seem to be able to accept the truth that Emery was brutally killed. "She was a good girl. I love her. I want her to come back,” Toni said.

“She was good. Strong. I miss her so much. I want to tell her that, ‘I love you, please be safe, and I love you so much,'” said Josiah.

According to her family, Emery, who would have turned 18 in October, was only one month away from graduating and was excited for her senior prom. On Facebook early on Friday morning, a woman claiming to be Emery's relative posted a heartbreaking message containing multiple images of the dead girl.

“Emmy, I love you so much baby. We’re all gonna miss you,” she wrote. “You were a beautiful soul with so much life ahead of you, I know you are in the best of hands now. I’d do anything for the chance to hug you and tell you I love you again. Sleep in peace our sweet angel.”
