LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Actress Emily Blunt recently shared a memorable story involving actress Meryl Streep from her 2010 wedding to John Krasinski during an appearance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' on Tuesday, May 27.
Blunt recalled how Streep ended up dancing to 'Mamma Mia' during the wedding celebrations at Lake Como in Italy, describing the moment as hilarious and unforgettable because she initially did not want to join in.
Meryl Streep danced to ‘Mamma Mia’ at Emily Blunt's wedding
Blunt explained that around 60 guests attended the wedding and took part in a boat ride during the celebrations at Lake Como.
Streep attended the wedding because of her friendship with Blunt after working together on 'The Devil Wears Prada,' while Krasinski had also worked with the actress in 'It's Complicated.'
Speaking about the reception, she said the DJ on the boat performed songs in “half-Italian, half-English.” According to Blunt, everything changed once the DJ started playing 'Mamma Mia,' the song closely associated with Streep’s hit musical film.
Blunt recalled that both her mother and Krasinski’s mother started “ominously dancing towards Meryl” as soon as the song began playing.
At the time of the wedding, Streep had already become strongly associated with the famous song, although the sequel, 'Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,' had not yet been released. Despite appearing reluctant at first, Streep eventually joined the dance.
Blunt said the Oscar-winning actress “indulged them” and danced with the guests during the celebration. She later asked Streep what had been going through her mind at that moment, to which the actress jokingly replied, “wanted to hurl myself into the lake.”
Even so, Blunt said Streep still joined everyone for the dance, and photos captured the entire moment, with Blunt describing the scene as “amazing.”
George Clooney’s Lake Como home hosted wedding
Kimmel, who attended the wedding himself, pointed out during the interview that many of the guests were meeting Streep for the first time that evening, with the dance quickly becoming a memorable introduction to the actress.
The estate where the wedding celebrations took place belonged to actor George Clooney, and the same property was later used as a filming location in 'The Devil Wears Prada 2.'
Clooney appeared surprised when he learned that his Italian home appeared in the sequel’s trailer, saying, "Is it really? Oh man, I've made it."
Speaking to Access Hollywood, he talked about how much the property meant to him. Clooney said, "The house holds a special place in my heart, because I love going there."
He also referred to Blunt as a “dear, dear, dear, dear friend.” She appeared on the show while promoting her upcoming sci-fi film 'Disclosure Day,' directed by Steven Spielberg, in which she plays Margaret Fairchild, a Kansas City TV meteorologist who is suddenly overtaken by a mysterious extraterrestrial force during a live weather broadcast.
