Emmanuel Pop Ba: Wife of Texas man shot dead in shooting spree remembers him as a 'good father' and 'diligent worker'
AUSTIN, TEXAS: The heartbroken wife of a man who tragically lost his life in the Austin shooting spree remembered him as a good father and a diligent worker. Emmanuel Pop Ba was one of the two people who was fatally shot on Shadywood Drive in Austin on December 5.
The 32-year-old victim's wife Domitilia Caal Pop told KVUE that Pop Ba would call her on his lunch break daily no matter how busy he remained with his work. However, her world fell apart when she didn't get to hear from him on the day of the ordeal and to make things worse Caal Pop later learned that her husband of 10 years had been shot and killed.
Emmanuel Pop Ba adopted a son from his homeland
The victim leaves behind three children, two girls he shares with Caal Pop and a son he adopted from his homeland of Guatemala. "Let there be justice for who did this. Emmanuel has a family and he has children, and they left my children without a father," Caal Pop told the outlet in Spanish.
Caal Pop details the time when she came to know about the incident
The devastated widow shared how she stood paralyzed at the sight of Austin Police Department officers knocking at her door to deliver the news she dreaded having to hear. "That's when they told me they found him dead from a gunshot wound," Caal Pop said, adding "I could have never imagined they would come and tell me that tragedy."
Pop Ba had been working as a mover in the area of Shadywood Drive in South Austin, where one of four shooting sprees unfolded.
What did Emmanuel Pop Ba's sister-in-law say?
Pop Ba's sister-in-law, Filomena Caal Pop, explained how he would always have his lunch in his car on his break and call his family. However, on the day of the tragedy, Pop Ba met his fate as the alleged gunman ran loose across the city.
Pop Ba's sister-in-law said he came from Guatemala to the US to make a life for himself and his family. He brought Filomena Caal Pop along so her sister could have company. It's a debt she hopes she can repay now that her brother-in-law is gone. "What's left for me to do is to do the same for his family since now he won't be able to," Filomena Caal Pop said in Spanish.
Emmanuel Pop Ba was a dedicated family man
Domitilia and Filomena Caal Pop described Pop Ba, who would have turned 33 on December 24, as a good father and an honest and dedicated family man. "There are so many families that are left destroyed ... They don't realize what they do to the families," Domitilia Caal Pop said.
A GoFundMe was started by Filomena Caal Pop. The family hopes that they can take Pop Ba's body to Guatemala once they get funeral arrangements sorted in the US so the rest of his family can honor his life.
