NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: On social media, X users weighed in on the latest demands made by Columbia law students. Students who have been at the forefront of anti-Israel demonstrations argued that the final exams should be canceled and that the students should be promoted, citing feelings of depression caused by the fallout from the protests.

Columbia University has been in the news recently due to the raids by NYPD after student demonstrators stormed Hamilton Hall and shut down the university campus, leading to more than 100 arrests. Among the protestors arrested by the police, 40-year-old James Carlson, the husband and son of a wealthy advertising executive couple was named as the mastermind behind the demonstrations.

Columbia University law students demand cancellation of final exams

The Columbia Law Review’s student editorial board is calling on the school to suspend its exams and pass all students following the police operation that shut down the anti-Israel camp on campus, the New York Post reports. In a letter, the student editors said the incident has had a profound impact on the entire student body.

The letter, written shortly after the NYPD removed protesters from Hamilton Hall, suggested that the school should consider giving students a simple pass or fail grade due to their emotional state following the incident.

In the letter posted by Above The Law, the editors highlighted the impact of the previous night's events, stating, “The violence we witnessed last night has irrevocably shaken many of us on the Review. We know this to be the same for a majority of our classmates. Videos have circulated of police clad in riot gear mocking and brutalizing our students. The events of last night left us, and many of our peers, unable to focus and highly emotional during this tumultuous time."

They proposed, "We believe that canceling exams would be a proportionate response to the level of distress our peers have been feeling. In the alternative, making courses mandatory pass/fail would be the next most equitable solution."

The statement also criticized the Columbia Law School administration for not considering their request to make all classes mandatory pass/fail.

As reported by Fox News, approximately 300 people were arrested at Columbia and nearby City College, with charges ranging from trespassing to criminal mischief to burglary.

A spokesperson for Columbia Law School told Fox News, "Law School exams resumed on Thursday, May 2, after a one-day suspension, and will be administered through the conclusion of the exam period."

Internet slam 'entitled' Columbia University law students

A user wrote, "Expel the protesters and instantly pass the students who protected the flag."

Another user wrote, "I think all the students who participated in one of those ridiculous protests and were involved in vandalizing the school should be expelled."

A user stated, "So now they want taxpayers to pay off their debt and pass without actually earning their degree. Unbelievable!"

One user mocked, "Perfect example of 'Do not confuse intelligence with higher education.' These whiny spoiled brats should receive a swift kick in the butt and expelled."

One user said, "Imagine being so entitled that you don't think you should have to take finals because of the “violence” some of them caused."

One user lashed out saying, "They had no issue breaking rules that Columbia has clearly set forth. What happened to the righteous indignation of these people? Why do they want any accolades from a “Zionist” college that funds gen*cide (their words)? Isn’t that immoral?"

Another one said, "Columbia should instead deny all exemption requests… those who seek them will not excel in law or life without being coddled. Seriously who would hire one of these fragile individuals to represent them in court? Yeah that’s just the lawyer I’d want /s"

One user said, "They should give them a special grade with a giant asterisk that every future employer will understand."
