WASHINGTON, DC: Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) confronted House Judiciary Chairman Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH) over a controversial tweet that featured an AI-generated image of former president Donald Trump rescuing cats and ducks.

The tweet, posted by the Judiciary Committee Republicans’ Twitter account, was accompanied by the caption: "Protect our ducks and kittens!"

Eric Swalwell cannot believe Jim Jordan was serious about posting Donald Trump's picture

Eric Swalwell slammed Jim Jordan during a Congressional hearing titled "The Biden-Harris Border Crisis: Victim Perspectives," as he presented the image on a poster board.

The image is a reference to unsubstantiated reports that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were allegedly eating stray cats and ducks from local parks, according to Daily Mail.

Addressing the committee on Tuesday, September 10 with visible frustration, Swalwell asked, "Are you serious? This issue is serious. They are not serious.”

He then highlighted a tweet by Jordan, who claimed, "When President Trump was in office, the border was secure, and illegal aliens weren't eating your pets."

The California Democrat expressed disbelief at the timing and nature of the tweet, considering the hearing’s focus on the tragic impact of immigration on the lives of Americans.

“What the hell is this? ... 'Protect our ducks and kittens in Ohio!' because he goes down some crazy rabbit hole, completely debunked, that aliens are eating pets,” said Swalwell.

"My God, are you OK, Mr. Chairman? I don't know why you would do this, I hope you are okay. I don't know if the aliens who are eating your ducks are in the room with us right now," he continued.

Directing his comments toward the witnesses present, Swalwell said, "I am sorry that you came here expecting seriousness."

Eric Swalwell said Republicans have no sense of reality

The controversy stemmed from a conspiracy theory that gained momentum after prominent conservative figures, including Jim Jordan, Senator JD Vance, and Elon Musk, amplified claims that undocumented Haitian refugees in Springfield, Ohio, were abducting and eating household pets.

However, officials in Springfield promptly debunked the false statement, confirming that no reports of pets being harmed by migrants had been received.

Concluding his remarks, Swalwell said, “What we’re witnessing is the continued collapse of any sense of reality from House Republicans."

“While we’re here talking about real human lives and the impact of immigration, they’re tweeting about cats," he added.

Internet supports Eric Swalwell's reaction to Donald Trump's AI image

As Eric Swalwell expressed his frustration over Jim Jordan's bizarre tweet with a fake image of Donald Trump protecting a duck and a kitten, netizens agreed with the California Democrat's reaction.

One user on X wrote, "Representative Swalwell is so perfect at this. Luv when he demeans those Rs, and their dear felonious leader," and another added, "I really feel for Swalwell in this. Working with these lunatics had got to be so exhausting!"

"This is exactly how these people need to be treated," a netizen commented, while someone else tweeted, "They’re running out of things to say and they know they’re done after the debate tonight."

"Rescuing cats and ducks is what Trump has always been doing. Isn't that so? Or, did Trump suddenly become an animals' rights activist because some fictitious Haitians arrived?" an individual opined, and another remarked, "The thought that Trump likes pets is beyond weird. He won't even save children."
