Jim Jordan subpoenas company led by Donald Trump's hush money case judge Juan Merchan's daughter
WASHINGTON, DC: House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, has issued a subpoena demanding information regarding the political work conducted by the daughter of New York State Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan presiding over Donald Trump's hush-money case.
Jordan addressed the subpoena to Michael Nellis, the founder and CEO of Authentic Campaigns, a company that has worked with prominent Democratic clients, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Jim Jordan accuses Authentic Campaigns of failing to comply with last demands
Jim Jordan accused Michael Nellis of failing to comply with prior demands from House investigators for documents related to Donald Trump’s prosecution.
In an earlier letter dated August 1, Jordan had demanded that Loren provide documents related to any work for Joe Biden and Harris, as well as any work connected to Trump’s prosecution or indictment. However, Nellis had dismissed those requests, per Raw Story.
"They are pursuing a baseless, MAGA-led conspiracy theory to call into question the fact that Trump was found guilty in his NY fraud trial by a jury of his peers," Nellis said at the time.
I have never spoken publicly about this before, but over the last year and a half, our agency (@Authentic_HQ) has been targeted by a baseless right-wing conspiracy theory that suggests our company is somehow involved in the Donald Trump fraud trial in New York.

Jim Jordan claims subpoena was compulsory
Jim Jordan explained in a letter to Michael Nellis that the committee had no choice but to resort to a subpoena after Nellis allegedly rejected their previous requests.
"As such, the Committee is left with no choice but to resort to compulsory process," he wrote in the letter, as reported by Fox News. Jordan also raised concerns about the impartiality of Judge Merchan in his letter.
"Of relevance to the Committee’s oversight is the impartiality of Judge Juan Merchan, the presiding trial judge, due to his refusal to recuse himself from the case in light of his apparent conflicts of interest and biases," Jordan wrote.
"One such conflict is Ms Merchan’s — daughter of Judge Merchan and President of Authentic Campaigns — work on behalf of President Trump’s political adversaries and the possible financial benefit that Ms Merchan and Authentic Campaigns received from the prosecution and conviction of President Trump," he added in the letter.
Michael Nellis responds to Jim Jordan's subpoena
Michael Nellis responded to the subpoena by accusing Jim Jordan and the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee of abusing their power to promote a "baseless right-wing conspiracy theory."
In a statement on X, Nellis stated, "We have just received a subpoena from Jim Jordan and the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee."
"This is yet another abuse of power, aimed at promoting a baseless right-wing conspiracy theory that links our company, Authentic, to Donald Trump’s fraud trial," he said.
Nellis explained that they are currently reviewing the subpoena with their legal team and will provide further information when available.

He also accused Jordan of using Congress to attack Trump’s political opponents, stating, "This is a blatant attempt to intimidate us and divert attention from Donald Trump’s conviction."
Jim Jordan gives Michael Nellis time till Sept 13 to comply
Jim Jordan's latest subpoena gives Michael Nellis until September 13 to comply, according to the report.
Jordan's committee is keen to prevent what it describes as politically motivated prosecutions of current and former presidents, particularly in cases where there are perceived or actual biases.
MSNBC legal analyst Lisa Rubin noted that Authentic Campaigns had clarified that no work had been done for Biden or Harris during the current election cycle.

"They've also been told about the death threats to her and the firm's founder. Yet today, they subpoenaed the firm, as if it, as opposed to the committee or Trump himself, has engaged in misconduct," she added.
Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to claims he paid an adult film actress to keep quiet about their affair. He is also under a partial gag order, which he again demanded be lifted on Wednesday.
