MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Donald Trump has criticized the gag order imposed on him by New York Justice Juan Merchan in hush-money case, demanding that he be "immediately released" from it.

Trump, who was found guilty in May on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, is currently restricted by a limited gag order that prohibits him from disclosing information about the jurors or making comments on prosecutors, court staff, and their families.

Will superseding indictment filed by special counsel Jack Smith impact Donald Trump's January 6 federal case?

Donald Trump, who is set to face sentencing on September 18, used his social media platform to express his frustration with the order.

Juan Merchan had delayed Trump's sentencing from July to September 18 to consider how a US Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity would impact his New York case.

This delay occurred just over a month before the ruling in Trump's January 6 federal case which was recently revised with a superseding indictment filed by special counsel Jack Smith.

It describes Trump as “a candidate for president of the United States in 2020.” The original indictment had referred to him as “the 45th President of the United States and a candidate for re-election in 2020," the New York Times reported.

Donald Trump says he will beat Kamala Harris who was put in for the presidential race by a coup

Donald Trump took to Truth Social to voice his opposition to the gag order.

"The Gag Order applied by Highly Conflicted Acting Justice Merchan is horrible and unAmerican," he wrote on Truth Social.

He continued to stress his position as a leading candidate in the upcoming election and criticized the restrictions placed on him.

"I am the Leading Candidate in the Election, having beaten all Republicans, and now beating the second Democrat Nominee, Comrade Kamala Harris, who was put in as a result of a COUP against Crooked Joe Biden," Trump wrote.

Despite some portions of the gag order being lifted after his conviction, which now allows him to comment on witnesses and jurors, Trump was fined a total of $10,000 during the trial for violating the remaining restrictions, reports Raw Story.

Donald Trump urges release from gag order to expose 'weaponization of our justice system'

Donald Trump expressed his frustration with the ongoing gag order, asserting that he is the first candidate in American history to face such restrictions.

"I am the first Candidate in American History who is not allowed to freely speak about a major Witch Hunt being perpetrated against him," Trump posted.

"I must be immediately released from the Gag Order, " he said, arguing that it hinders his ability to expose what he describes as the "weaponization of our justice system by the radical Democrats."

"The GOOD NEWS is that the American People see through these Witch Hunts, and will bring us a dominant Victory on November 5th. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!," Trump wrote.

Internet reacts to Donald Trump's demand for immediate release from gag order

The online community was quick to respond to Donald Trump's remarks with a mix of support and criticism.

One user wrote on X, "Thanks for reminding us, I totally forgot that you have been found guilty of 34 count by a jury of American..."

Another user supported Trump's stance, writing, "The radical left only has lawfare to try and take Trump out. Pray it continues to fail."

A different user questioned Trump's narrative, saying, "Have you ever considered that you are the only blatant criminal president we’ve had in 245 years so everything is unprecedented?"

"You can talk about anything you want except the trial, the jurors, the judge and his family or employees of the court. Pretty simple," one mocked Trump suggesting the gag order was no big deal.

Another added, "Wah wah wah! Trump is crying again cause he can't intimidate the jurors & witnesses from the Hush Money trial. He's still bound by the 'partial' gag order. Judge Merchan keep the gag order in effect for the Orange loser!"
