'Euphoria' star denies rumors of feud between Sydney Sweeney and Zendaya: 'There was no drama'
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Actress Jessica Blair Herman has addressed rumors of a feud between Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney that have circulated widely in connection with the popular HBO original series 'Euphoria.'
During her appearance on 'Good Day NY' with host Rosanna Scotto on the Monday, April 27 episode, she addressed the rumors directly, pushing back against claims of tension and sharing a clearer picture of what the atmosphere is like behind the scenes of the series.
Jessica Blair Herman shuts down feud rumors within 'Euphoria' cast
Herman, who appears in season three of the show as the neighbor to Sweeney and Jacob Elordi’s characters, emphasized that all the actors got along well, saying, “They really did,” and adding, “And I’m not just saying that.”
She maintained "there was no drama,” and continued “Really, they've created this beautiful working relationship and everyone wants to do the work, to come in and do the job.” However, she noted that the characters of Zendaya’s Rue and Sweeney’s Cassie have very limited screen time together in the series.
Herman added, “To be fair, when I was there, they're not sharing scenes, Their storylines are very separate, you're shooting on different days and stuff.”
As for her experience working alongside Sweeney on the Sam Levinson show, Herman said it was “great.” She added, "I feel very lucky because working with Sam was a dream come true, and then I got on set and my first scene was with Sydney, and she's so generous and vulnerable."
Speaking about Sweeney's performance in challenging scenes, she said, “You sense this really beautiful, vulnerable, open heart. She's a real artist. And I feel very lucky to have shared some scenes with her.”
Labrinth exit and storyline spark fresh conversation around 'Euphoria'
Beyond addressing feud rumors, Herman’s comments arrive amid other developments surrounding 'Euphoria.' The show’s composer, Labrinth, recently announced his departure ahead of the season three premiere. In an Instagram Story shared April 11, he suggested tensions within the creative process.
He wrote, "People will comfortably lie in this industry and still call themselves honest people, so no cap I decided to remove whatever music I had in it. I spoke to HBO as far as I know we are cool.” The Emmy winner continued, “I left because, last truth, when I work for someone, their vision is paramount to me. But I don’t let people treat me like s**t.”
Sweeney has also faced backlash for her OnlyFans storyline in the current season. Levinson defended the storyline, explaining that it was an intentional choice to depict her in a stylized photoshoot inside the outdated home she shares with her fiance, Nate Jacobs played by Elordi, as they prepare for their expensive wedding.
“Cassie has her dog house, along with the ears and nose, which brings a sense of humor to the scene,” Levinson explained in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published on April 12, adding that “what really makes the scene is that her housekeeper is the one filming it.”
He further said that the intention was to add another layer of absurdity, ensuring the scene did not remain confined to Cassie’s fantasy. “The idea is to break out of it,” the 41-year-old noted, “to disrupt the illusion.”
