Fact Check: Are reports claiming Pentagon warned Trump against attacking Iran true?
WASHINGTON, DC: Several news reports suggested that senior Pentagon officials, including Joint Chiefs Chairman General Daniel Caine, warned President Donald Trump against attacking Iran.
As per reports, Caine was more careful in planning discussions compared with earlier operations and viewed a potential strike on Iran as carrying a higher risk of US casualties. But is there any truth to this? Let us find out below.
Claim: Pentagon warned Trump against attacking Iran
News outlet Axios reported on Monday, February 23, that General Caine was careful in planning discussions as compared to earlier operations and viewed a potential strike on Iran as carrying a higher risk of US casualties.
Moreover, the Wall Street Journal mentioned that Caine gave similar warnings during meetings at the Pentagon and the National Security Council, and other Pentagon officials also expressed worries.
Meanwhile, The Washington Post stated in its report that Caine cautioned any major military operation in Iran could face hurdles because of a low stockpile of munitions, depleted by the US’s backing of Ukraine and the ongoing defense of Israel.
However, none of the reports mentioned that General Caine was against the US going to war against Iran. The Joint Chiefs Chairman has presented the POTUS and other top national security officials a range of strike options that the US military could execute against Iran, a source informed The Hill.
Fact Check: False, Trump debunks media reports
The claims made in media reports are not true, as Donald Trump debunked the claims that senior Pentagon officials warned the POTUS against attacking Iran.
He took to Truth Social and wrote on Monday, "Numerous stories from the Fake News Media have been circulating stating that General Daniel Caine, sometimes referred to as Razin, is against us going to War with Iran. The story does not attribute this vast wealth of knowledge to anyone, and is 100 percent incorrect."

The POTUS added, "General Caine, like all of us, would like not to see War but, but if a decision is made on going against Iran at a Military level, it is his opinion that it will be something easily won."
Emphasizing Caine's loyalty and readiness to act if ordered, Trump said, "He has not spoken of not doing Iran, or even the fake limited strikes that I have been reading about; he only knows one thing, how to WIN and, if he is told to do so, he will be leading the pack."
