Fact Check: Are the Obamas suing people who claim Michelle Obama is a man?
WASHINGTON, DC: A long-running conspiracy theory falsely claiming that former First Lady Michelle Obama is a man has resurfaced. A new rumor suggests that Barack and Michelle Obama may take legal action against people spreading the claim.
The alleged lawsuit has raised questions about whether the former first couple plans to challenge the repeated allegations in court. But is there any evidence that the Obamas are considering a defamation lawsuit? Let’s fact-check the claim.

The lawsuit rumor began with an X post by a user named Emmaiid11, who claimed that Barack and Michelle Obama were considering a defamation lawsuit against people calling Michelle Obama a man.
The post presented the claim as breaking news and included a sensational image of the couple.
The post stated, “The Obamas are reportedly considering a defamation lawsuit against people who are calling Michelle Obama a man.”
This comes after a debunked rumor claimed that Michelle Obama had sued Hokit after he called her “a man” following a UFC fight at the White House on June 14, 2026.
After his bout, which formed part of the celebrations for America's 250th anniversary, Hokit told podcaster Joe Rogan, “And lastly, Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?”
A TikTok user also spread an unverified claim that Michelle Obama had responded to Hokit within hours.
The user wrote in an archived post, “Within less than 6 hours after Josh Hokit attacked Michelle Obama at a White House boxing event, she immediately responded in three shocking ways that made him widely ridiculed.”
Fact Check: The claim is false

The claim is false. No evidence shows that Barack or Michelle Obama are considering or have filed a defamation lawsuit against people who claim that Michelle Obama is a man.
Multiple X accounts shared the same “BREAKING” wording and graphic on October 26. These posts often attract replies, likes, and shares in some political communities, even when fact-checkers have already debunked the claims.
The conspiracy theory claiming that Michelle Obama is a man has circulated for years. Social media users periodically revive it when the Obamas make news or when debates about transgender issues and related conspiracy theories gain attention.
Recent unrelated rumors about the Obamas, including speculation about their marriage around their anniversary and false claims involving pregnancy photos, have also kept the couple in the public eye.
This attention can make it easier for users to revive older conspiracy theories and spread them to new audiences.
