LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Renowned actor and comedian Eddie Murphy is reportedly involved in a dispute with his daughter, Bella Murphy. The claim began with unverified social media posts alleging that Eddie cut ties with Bella after giving her $5 million for a film project. The posts also claim that Bella spent the money without making progress on the movie. Let's fact-check it.

Claim: Eddie Murphy cut ties with daughter after she spent $5M for a failed film project

An X user shared an unverified quote allegedly attributed to Eddie Murphy, claiming he gave his daughter Bella Murphy $5 million for a movie project.

The post claimed that Murphy later cut ties with Bella and blocked her after she allegedly spent the money without making progress on the film.

The post introduced the claim by writing, “Eddie Murphy reportedly said this about his daughter Bella Murphy.” It then attributed a quote to Murphy, saying he cut her off after she asked him to support a new movie.

The alleged statement claimed, "I gave her $5 million, but shortly after receiving the money, she started spending recklessly and didn’t make any progress on the movie."

The alleged quote ended by claiming that Bella contacted Murphy again after the money ran out. It said Murphy had already blocked her because he did not want to be taken advantage of again.

"Once the money ran out, she started calling me again, but by then I had already blocked her because I didn’t want to be taken advantage of again.”

Fact Check: False, no evidence to support the claim

The claim is false. There is no evidence that Eddie Murphy made the alleged statement, gave Bella Murphy $5 million for a movie project, or cut ties with her after she allegedly spent the money without making progress on the film.

Searches of news reports, interviews, and other reliable sources found no reports supporting the claim. There are also no known court records or public statements confirming the alleged dispute. The story appears to have started with a viral X post on August 20, 2026, which did not give any source for the quote.

Bella Murphy, born in 2002, has pursued acting. She appeared alongside her father in 'Coming 2 America' in 2021 and has a supporting role in the 2026 Netflix film 'Roommates.'

In interviews in May 2026, Bella spoke positively about her father’s parenting. She said Eddie had a rule that his children could not act or work in the entertainment industry until they turned 18.

He wanted them to have a normal childhood. Bella has also spoken about acting advice she received from her father, including his view that “doing less is more.”

Eddie and Bella have also continued to appear together publicly. They attended the 'Roommates' premiere in Los Angeles on April 13, 2026. There are no reports that Eddie and Bella are estranged or that he cut her off financially.
