Fact Check: False, Iran did not call to end the war

ISTANBUL, TURKEY - JANUARY 30: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi gives a statement at the Ritz Hotel as he meets Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, on January 30, 2026 in Istanbul, Turkey. Protests that began in Tehran on December 28 over worsening economic conditions escalated into one of the deadliest anti-government uprisings in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Iranian authorities say at least 3,117 people were killed, while human rights groups estimate the toll could reach 6,000 or more and warn it may rise once internet blackouts are lifted. U.S. President Donald Trump has sent an armada of U.S. warships toward Iran and warned Tehran that time was running out to negotiate a deal on its nuclear program. There is no evidence that Iranian officials have called for an end to the war. Moreover, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, on March 7, clarified that they will not agree to a ceasefire with the United States and Israel, stating that Tehran will keep fighting unless the war ends permanently.

Speaking to NBC News' 'Meet the Press,' Araghchi said Iran cannot halt military operations while attacks on its territory continue.

“There needs to be a permanent end to the war,” he said. “Unless we get to that, I think we need to continue fighting for the sake of our people and our security.”

A fact check by Grok stated, “No state TV reports or official statements show them publicly "calling for an end to the war with the US if guarantees" right after."

"Recent Iranian comments (FM Araghchi, adviser Kharazi) are defiant: reject ceasefire talks while attacks continue, ready for long war, demand no further aggression first. Earlier indirect intel feelers (pre-naming) weren't public or on state TV. War is ongoing.”

President Donald Trump on Tuesday, March 10, said that the Iran war was going to end soon, without providing any specific timeline. He also warned Tehran that if they tried anything cute, the US would end the nation. He called the Iran war a short-term excursion.

"It's going to end soon, and if it starts up again, they'll be hit even harder," Trump told a news conference in Florida. "We took a little excursion because we felt we had to do that to get rid of some people. And I think you'll see it's going to be a short-term excursion," he said.
