WASHINGTON, DC: Amid the controversy surrounding the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and claims of vandalism during its renovation, a rumor began circulating on social media alleging that US Attorney Jeanine Pirro had filed hate crime charges against an alleged Antifa operative connected to the damage.

The claim gained traction across X and Facebook, with thousands of users sharing posts that suggested federal charges had already been filed. However, a closer look at the origins of the claim and available evidence tells a different story.

Claim: Jeanine Pirro filed hate crime charges over alleged damage to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool

A viral post on X claimed that Pirro had filed hate crime charges against an Antifa operative allegedly responsible for damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which has been at the center of public debate during the Trump administration's renovation project.

The post stated, "JEANINE PIRRO THE BASED QUEEN JUST DROPPED HATE CRIME CHARGES ON THE ANTIFA SCUMBAG WHO HELPED DESTROY THE LINCOLN MEMORIAL REFLECTING POOL."

According to the viral claim, Pirro had supposedly escalated the matter from vandalism to a federal hate crime case involving one of the nation's most recognizable monuments.

The post also attributed a quote to Pirro that read, "This isn't some slap-on-the-wrist vandalism charge anymore. This is a federal hate crime for attacking one of America's most sacred national monuments."

The claim spread widely online, prompting some users to accept it as fact while others questioned its authenticity and called for verification.

Fact Check: No evidence shows Jeanine Pirro filed charges as viral claim traces back to a parody source

The claim is false.

There are no credible reports indicating that Pirro filed hate crime charges related to alleged vandalism at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. A review of reporting from major news organizations found no evidence supporting the claim.

If such charges had been filed by a high-profile federal prosecutor in a nationally watched case, the development would likely have been covered by multiple established news outlets. No such coverage exists.

There is also no verified evidence linking Antifa to the alleged damage referenced in the viral posts. Furthermore, Antifa is not a formal organization with a centralized membership structure, making claims about specific "Antifa operatives" difficult to substantiate without supporting evidence.

The rumor appears to have originated from the Facebook parody page 'America's Last Line of Defense.' The page openly identifies itself as satire and states in its bio that "Nothing on this page is real.".

Donald Trump reiterates Reflecting Pool vandalism allegations

The viral claim emerged against the backdrop of President Donald Trump's continued assertions that vandals damaged the Reflecting Pool during renovation work.

Trump has maintained that a large slit discovered in the pool's facade was the result of vandalism and said evidence would eventually be presented in court.

During an exchange with CBS News White House correspondent Ed O'Keefe, Trump pushed back against suggestions that construction issues, rather than vandalism, may have caused the damage.

When asked whether he had proof that vandals cut the pool, Trump responded, "Well, let's put it this way, when you have a 350, I think it's 350, not 250, when you have a 350-foot slit, from one end to the other, you think that's proof? You think that's proof?"

While Trump has continued to defend his position, no evidence has surfaced to support the viral claim that Pirro filed hate crime charges connected to the Reflecting Pool controversy.
