Fact Check: Did John Fetterman say that Joe Biden used a body double?

WASHINGTON, DC: As the tensions between Senator John Fetterman and fellow Democrats continue to grow, a rumor has surfaced online claiming that the Pennsylvania Senator has said that former President Joe Biden used a body double and has asked the Democrats to admit it. The viral claim has evoked questions and requires a fact-check.

Claim: John Fetterman says Joe Biden used a body double

A viral post on X described Fetterman as the only Democrat telling the truth and claimed that he is demanding his own party admit that Joe Biden was replaced by a body double. “It was obvious to anyone paying attention,” Fetterman allegedly said. 

According to Fetterman, the double was only supposed to stand and wave from far away for photo ops. “The next thing I know, I see this guy behind the Resolute Desk. I was like… is anyone gonna say anything?” 

The post further described the alleged replacement as "nothing short of a constitutional crisis". It asserted that, despite continued denials from other Democrats, he was voicing what "millions of Americans already know." 

While many in the comments expressed shock over the alleged confession, others dismissed it as fake, prompting a fact-check.

Fact Check: False, no credible evidence to support the claim

Despite his tensions with the members of his own party, there is no evidence of Fetterman saying that the former president used a body double. 

Although the rumors about Biden using a body double have been debunked before, there are no recent news reports about the Senator making such a remark.

A Google search for the claim yielded no such reports, which, if true, would have been widely covered. 

The account that first posted the claim is also not credible and has made similar fake and unverified claims for the sake of engagement.

Benjamin Netanyahu praises John Fetterman's support for Israel

After he used his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on July 29 to once again distance himself from fellow Democrats over their stance on Israel, Fetterman declared, "I have no regrets.” 

A remark that underscored his widening split with members of his own party. 

According to a transcript released by Netanyahu's office, the prime minister told Fetterman, "You've been a stellar patriot, talking about what is good for America, what is good for our alliance, of which you've been a champion." 

"You've been telling it like it is, with no fear, and just an indefatigable and courageous commitment to the truth," he said.
