WASHINGTON, DC: A Facebook post claimed that Secretary of State Marco Rubio had officially revoked comedian Rosie O'Donnell’s passport after she allegedly gave up her US citizenship.

Fact Check: No evidence shows Marco Rubio revoked Rosie O'Donnell’s passport

No official comment has been made suggesting that Marco Rubio confirmed Rosie O'Donnell’s passport was revoked. On the Facebook page’s “About Us” section, it states: “Dunning-Kruger-Times.com is a subsidiary of the 'America’s Last Line of Defense' network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery, or as Snopes called it before they lost their war on satire: Junk News.”

No evidence has been found on Bing, DuckDuckGo, Google, or Yahoo that Rubio confirmed officials revoked O'Donnell's passport, nor that O'Donnell “forfeited” her US citizenship. The claim resurfaced weeks after O'Donnell posted on TikTok that she had moved to Ireland with her family in January 2025.

Why Rosie O'Donnell moved to Ireland

On January 15, 2025, Rosie O'Donnell confirmed in a TikTok video that she had moved her family to Ireland several days before Donald Trump’s second inauguration, seeking dual citizenship because of her family’s Irish background.

Her story gained more attention after President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on July 12, 2025: “Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship. She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. GOD BLESS AMERICA!"

In response, Rosie O’Donnell took to Instagram: “The president of the USA has always hated the fact that I see him for who he is—a criminal con man, sexual abusing liar out to harm our nation to serve himself. This is why I moved to Ireland—he is a dangerous old soulless man with dementia who lacks empathy, compassion, and basic humanity. I stand in direct opposition to all he represents—so do millions of others. U gonna deport all who stand against ur evil tendencies? Ur a bad joke who can't form a coherent sentence. #nevertrump”

She later added, “I’m not yours to silence. I never was.” On September 3, Trump escalated with another Truth Social post: “As previously mentioned, we are giving serious thought to taking away Rosie O'Donnell’s Citizenship. She is not a Great American and is, in my opinion, incapable of being so!”

White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly told Fox News Digital, "As President Trump said, the administration is seriously considering revoking Rosie O’Donnell’s citizenship. Rosie has already left the United States due to her debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, and is brazen with her hatred of our great country.”

The publication also noted that a president is not allowed to strip the citizenship of someone born in the United States under the Constitution. Rosie O'Donnell, who was born in New York, has her citizenship protected by the 14th Amendment
