Fact Check: Did Trump blame his staff for backlash over his primetime speech?
WASHINGTON, DC: Amid the backlash following the claims made by President Donald Trump in his Thursday prime-time speech, a rumor began circulating on social media platforms claiming that Trump had blamed his staff for the criticism of his speech.
The claim has triggered questions and speculation, prompting a fact-check of the claim.
Claim: Donald Trump blamed his staff for primetime speech backlash
The claim surfaced as a post on X stating, “Donald Trump has reportedly been screaming at his staff for two days over his universally mocked speech on election fraud, and is accusing them of making him look like an idiot.”
The post has garnered more than three hundred thousand views as of this writing, prompting mockery and criticism of the president, suggesting that many believe the claim is authentic.
Meanwhile, a few others remained skeptical and questioned the authenticity of the claim, calling for a fact-check.
Fact Check: The claim originated as satire
However, the rumor is untrue, as there is no credible evidence to back the claim. There are no reports that say Trump has been screaming at his staff for making him look like an idiot for the backlash he received for the election fraud claims.
A search on Google for the keywords ‘Trump screaming at his staff,’ ‘Trump meltdown over election fraud claims,’ and ‘Trump accused his staff of making him look like an idiot’ yielded no relevant results from prominent news media outlets.
Moreover, the X account called ‘The Halfway Post,’ which made the claim, is a parody account that describes itself in the bio as ‘satire.’ Hence, the claim was intended as satire, made for the sake of engagement.
Donald Trump alleges China influenced 2020 elections
In his primetime speech, announced the release of newly declassified intelligence documents that he claims show how China carried out a coordinated campaign to influence the 2020 US election and prevent his return to the White House.
He said the records reveal alleged Chinese efforts to obtain sensitive voter data, influence public opinion, and undermine confidence in his presidency.
"The People's Republic of China carried out what is believed to be the largest compromise of election data in history, resulting in China's illicit acquisition of 220 million US voter files," Trump said.
However, the claim contradicts the official intelligence assessments, which concluded there were no indications that any foreign government altered the technical aspects of the 2020 presidential election, including voter registrations, ballots, vote tabulation, or certified results.
