Fact Check: Did Trump call Kuwait worse than Saudi in a post after Iranian strikes?
WASHINGTON, DC: Amid the renewed strikes between the United States and Iran despite the ongoing peace negotiations, a rumor began circulating on social media platforms claiming that President Donald Trump called Kuwait worse than Saudi Arabia in a social media post following an Iranian attack. Let us analyse and fact-check the viral claim.
Claim: Trump called Kuwait 'weak' and 'worse than Saudi Arabia'
The rumor spread in the form of a screenshot claiming to show a post by Trump on his official Truth Social handle. The alleged post states, “It's incredible, Kuwait is very weak.
Worse than Saudi Arabia, intercepting a missile is easy, especially with the defensive weapons we sell them; they're stupid, they don't know how to use them.”
The screenshot has been amplified by various accounts, sparking debates about fragile alliances in the Middle East and triggering concerns and criticisms against the Trump administration.
Fact Check: Donald Trump made no such post
The screenshot, however, is fake as the president made no such post. A search on his official Truth Social account and commentary account on X, which automatically archives all his Truth Social posts, showed no results for the post that matches the remarks in the screenshot.
A search on Google for the quote also showed no results of Trump making similar statements anywhere else.
A fact check by Grok, the AI assistant of X, stated, “No, Trump did not post that. The attached image is a fabricated or fake screenshot. It shows a supposed Trump post claiming Kuwait is ‘very weak,’ ‘stupid,’ and doesn’t know how to use US defensive weapons.”
Kuwait reports missile and drone attacks from Iran
The screenshot surfaced after Kuwait announced early on Monday that its air defense systems were “confronting hostile missile and drone attacks,” providing limited details.
Although it did not specify where the attack originated or what was targeted, the Arab country hosts a US air base that has reportedly been attacked by Iran and its proxies in the past.
The incident came just days after reports that several Americans suffered minor injuries when debris from an intercepted Iranian ballistic missile struck Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait on Saturday last week.
