WASHINGTON, DC: The devastating flash floods in Central Texas on July 4 caused massive destruction, killing more than 130 people, including children. Many are still to be found as rescue operations are still on.

Following the floods, a rumor circulated online claiming that President Donald Trump sent no Marine Corps to help after the catastrophic Texas floods, while thousands were deployed to the Los Angeles protests. But is there any truth to this? Let us find out below.

Claim: Trump sent no Marines to help after Texas floods while thousands were deployed to LA protests

In July 2025, a rumor spread across social media claiming that President Donald Trump sent 2,700 troops from the US Marine Corps to Los Angeles to quell protests over ICE raids, but sent no Marines to Texas to help find missing people after the flash floods swept through the state.

The rumor circulated across social media platforms such as X, Threads, Facebook, and Instagram.

An X user wrote, "Never forget that Donald Trump sent 2,700 Marines to stop protesters in Los Angeles But sent ZERO to Texas to help find 180+ missing people or recover the bodies of more than 100 dead. That's Donald Trump."

Similarly, a Facebook user wrote, "Never forget that they sent 2,700 Marines to stop protesters in Los Angeles, but sent ZERO to Texas to help find 180+ missing people."

Fact Check: Partly true as Trump deployed only 700 Marines to stop LA protests

The claims made in the online rumors are partly true. Trump did send troops from the Marine Corps to Los Angeles amid the immigration raid protests. He also did not deploy any Marines to Texas during the flash floods that happened in July.

However, Trump deployed only 700, not 2,700, Marine Corps personnel to LA for the official purpose of protecting federal property, along with 4,000 California Army National Guard soldiers, Snopes reported.

The White House said in an emailed statement on June 10 that Trump sent the troops to LA to "protect American citizens and restore law and order."

Meanwhile, in another emailed statement on July 14, an unidentified White House official said Trump "approved a Major Disaster Declaration just hours after [Texas] Governor Greg Abbott's request, ensuring our brave first responders immediately had the resources they need", according to Snopes.

In response to the Texas floods, the White House said, "The Trump Administration is leading a historic, first-of-its-kind approach to disaster funding: putting states first by providing upfront recovery support."

Trump administration sent FEMA workers following floods in Texas

Donald Trump did not deploy any Marines to Texas after the devastating flash floods struck communities along the Guadalupe River in Hill Country.

However, the fact-checking outlet reported that his administration did send Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) workers alongside US Coast Guard and US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) units, according to emails from both the White House and the Department of Homeland Security.

The email read, "By Tuesday, FEMA had deployed 311 staffers, providing support and shelter for hundreds of people. The robust, coordinated federal response has saved over 900+ lives. The US Coast Guard alone rescued over 230 Americans."

Moreover, it must be noted that Texas Governor Greg Abbott deployed the National Guard, and not Trump, as it is usually the governor who does it in case of a natural disaster.
