WASHINGTON, DC: According to a post circulating on social media, Barron Trump, the youngest son of President Donald Trump, is being forced into an arranged marriage with Princess Isabella of Denmark as part of a diplomatic strategy to secure Greenland for the US. The claim quickly went viral, sparking doubts about its authenticity. Let us fact-check it.

Claim: Barron Trump to marry the princess of Denmark

A viral X post suggested that the president’s youngest child, 19-year-old Barron Trump, marry Denmark’s Princess Isabella, who turned 18 in April, and the princess could offer Greenland, an autonomous territory within NATO ally Denmark, as a dowry.

“The simple diplomatic solution is Barron Trump marrying Princess Isabella of Denmark and Greenland is given to America as dowry payment,” wrote MAGA influencer account Miss White, in a post that garnered 6.8 million views.

Isabella, the second child of King Frederik X and Queen Mary, and second in the line of succession, is currently in her final year of upper secondary education at a public state school in Copenhagen, and is set to graduate this summer.

A fact check by Gork, the AI assistant of X, debunked the claim as a satirical joke that went viral on social media, not a real offer or arrangement from Denmark's King.

The post, posted on Thursday, January 8, is clearly posted for humor by an account known for 'metapolitical satire,' not any official source.

As first reported by The Atlantic, Denmark has remained firmly opposed to Trump’s increasingly frequent assertions that “We do need Greenland, absolutely.”

Hence, it is unlikely the Nordic country is willing to barter its princess.

United State's attempt to acquire Greenland

During an appearance on CNN on Tuesday, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller doubled down on the US’s need to acquire Greenland.

“For the United States to secure the Arctic region, to protect and defend NATO and NATO interests, obviously, Greenland should be part of the United States,” Miller said.

He added that there was no need to discuss military action, saying, “Nobody‘s going to fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland.”

Meanwhile, Denmark has been garnering support from its European allies. Several of America’s closest allies rallied behind the Arctic territory in an open letter urging the US to back off.
