Fact Check: Is 'Stop Trump' Craigslist ad recruiting paid protesters from January 2026 real?
WASHINGTON, DC: Following the shooting of Renee Nicole Good, 37, in Minneapolis on January 7 by an ICE agent, several protests have emerged across the United States.
Amid this, a rumor surfaced online purportedly showing a Craigslist ad in Philadelphia looking to hire people to 'STOP TRUMP'. The alleged ad was offering people up to $1,500 per week for unspecified work. But is it really true? Let us find out below.
Claim: 'Stop Trump' Craigslist ad recruiting paid protesters is from January 2026
On January 10, a Facebook user posted a picture of the Craigslist ad. The caption of the post read, "'Stop Trump' Craigslist ad recruiting paid protesters from January 2026. Let's stop pretending this is 'activism'."
It further added, "These people are being PAID to: Incite violence, Obstruct police, Disrupt communities, Create chaos, and then play the 'victim' on camera."
"And every time this happens, innocent people get hurt. Property gets destroyed. Officers get attacked. Lives get ruined — sometimes even lost — all because a handful of professional agitators are hired to manufacture outrage and destabilize cities," the post concluded.
The post also circulated on X, where a user wrote, "Craigslist Philly: More proof emerges that the protests are not organic. I'm sure we have the equivalent in New York City and other urban centers. Time to get to the source and shut this noise down!!"

The post was further circulated on other social media platforms, including Instagram and Threads.
Fact Check: The ad first started circulating online in 2016
The claims made in the online rumor are false, as the ad first started circulating online in 2016, before President Donald Trump's first term in office, and social media users sharing the ad in 2026 had miscaptioned the photo.
Searches for the ad's title on Google revealed Fox News reporting from November 2016, stating an advertisement with identical text circulated on Craigslist in major American cities, including Philadelphia, before that year's presidential election.
The outlet linked the ads to Planned Parenthood affiliate Community Outreach Group, which the report mentioned was a 'for-profit organization formed by Planned Parenthood'. As per Fox News, neither group confirmed it had posted the ads.
Furthermore, a user discussion platform, QBN.com, also posted a version of the listing in November 2016, corroborating Fox News' reporting that the ad first circulated that year.
Though it was unclear who originally posted the ads and why, it was clear that they circulated years before Good's death and the protests in January 2026.
Renee Nicole Good’s family hires George Floyd's attorneys
Renee Nicole Good's family has hired the same legal team that represented George Floyd’s family to lead a civil investigation into her death.
The law firm Romanucci & Blandin confirmed it is now representing Renee's partner, parents, and siblings as they seek answers and accountability following her death.
The firm said in a statement that Renee's family wants her to be remembered as 'an agent of peace' and is demanding a clear explanation of what happened that day. They plan to release the findings of their civil investigation in the coming weeks, the attorneys said.
Good’s family hired Romanucci & Blandin after federal authorities declined a civil rights probe, even as the FBI investigates and protests continue.
