WASHINGTON, DC: An X post claims that President Donald Trump is coordinating with Senate Republicans, including Tuberville, Cruz, Blackburn, and Scott, to remove John Thune as Senate Majority Leader. The post alleges that Thune has obstructed Trump’s agenda, held secret meetings with Democrats on impeachment, and maintained financial ties to China.

The rumor spreads online amid ongoing tensions between Thune and MAGA-aligned factions, particularly over the SAVE America Act, filibuster rules, and spending legislation, as some Republican lawmakers have previously called for new Senate leadership amid stalled policy priorities.

Claim: Trump is considering firing John Thune as Majority Leader

An X user shared a viral post claiming that President Trump and his Senate allies were organizing an effort to replace John Thune as Majority Leader.

The post opened with a “breaking” headline and alleged that Trump was in close communication with MAGA-aligned Republican senators, "including Republican Senators Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, Ted Cruz of Texas, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee and Rick Scott of Florida, among others, putting together a plan to OUST TRUMP-HATING RINO John Thune as Republican Majority Leader and REPLACE HIM with an AMERICA FIRST ALLY of President Trump and the MAGA movement."

The post further claimed that these efforts stemmed from frustration among Trump and his supporters over what they described as Thune’s obstruction of the Trump agenda. It also accused Thune of holding secret late-night meetings with Senate Democrats, including Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, to discuss potential impeachment scenarios if Democrats regained control of the House.

In addition, the post alleged, "There is also growing concern among MAGA Republicans in The Senate about Thune's alleged DEEP FINANCIAL TIES TO COMMUNIST CHINA."

It concluded by asking readers whether they supported efforts to remove and replace Thune as Majority Leader.

Fact Check: No official reports support the claim regarding John Thune

There is no credible evidence that President Donald Trump is coordinating a plan with specific Republican senators to oust John Thune as Senate Majority Leader.

While tensions do exist, verified reporting shows that Trump has pressured Thune on policy issues, particularly the SAVE America Act and Senate filibuster rules, rather than attempting to remove him from leadership.

Thune, in turn, has resisted some of Trump’s demands, citing a lack of votes and institutional constraints in the Senate, which has contributed to friction within the Republican Party. Although some MAGA-aligned figures and commentators have publicly criticized Thune or called for leadership changes, these reflect political opinions and online rhetoric rather than proof of an organized effort.

There are no official statements from Trump, Senate Republicans, or credible news organizations confirming any coordinated plan to remove Thune, any private strategy meetings to replace him, or any formal leadership challenge currently underway.

The claim appears to stem from viral social media posts rather than verified reporting. While genuine political disagreements between Trump and Thune persist, there is no evidence supporting the existence of a coordinated effort to oust him as Majority Leader.
