Fact Check: Is Trump going to force Democrats to sue him to not pay TSA employees?
WASHINGTON, DC: Several TSA employees are working without pay during the ongoing partial government shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which started last month.
Approximately 50,000–61,000 frontline TSA officers are classified as 'essential' and must continue screening passengers, baggage, and cargo at over 430 commercial airports.
Amid this, a rumor circulated online claiming that President Donald Trump is going to force Democrats to sue him to not pay TSA employees. But is there any truth to this? Let us find out below.
Claim: Trump to force Democrats to sue him to not pay TSA employees
An X account @C_3C_3 came up with a post that read, "President Trump is about to force the Democrats to sue him to not pay TSA employees. Checkmate."
The post, which also featured a smiling portrait of the POTUS, garnered more than 86,000 views, and more than 13,000 users liked the post.
The TSA employees received no regular paychecks during the lapse in appropriations, though federal law guarantees retroactive back pay once funding is restored.

However, back pay often takes 14–30 days to process and does not cover late fees, penalties, interest on debts, or other immediate costs.
Interestingly, the shutdown has lasted for more than 40 days. Many TSA workers have already missed multiple paychecks, and they are on track to miss more unless a deal is reached.
Fact Check: False, the claim is exaggerated
The claim made in the viral post that Donald Trump is going to force Democrats to sue him to not pay TSA employees is not true, as the narrative is a rhetorical exaggeration designed to portray opponents as anti-worker.
The social media post twists a real announcement into a narrative that implies Democrats oppose paying the workers themselves.
Donald Trump on Thursday, March 26, posted on Truth Social that he will sign an executive order directing the DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin to immediately pay the approximately 50,000 frontline TSA officers.
The POTUS described it as addressing an 'Emergency Situation' to stop 'Democrat Chaos at the Airports' caused by long security lines, high absenteeism, and staffing shortages.
The shutdown negotiations continue, and the situation remains fluid. TSA workers will get back pay once the problem is resolved, but immediate hardships and travel disruptions persist.
